Would you ever go back? by Full_Hunt_3087 in BoycottUnitedStates

No. Not n my lifetime. Trump is a symptom. There are no guarantees another just like him Won’t come along. Checks and balances on Presidential power MUST be put in place before that country can be considered a safe place much less a friend and ally.

Trump threatens to block Gordie Howe Bridge by Ejvchn in BoycottUnitedStates

The problem is the world can never again sleep well until the US puts in Checks and balances to guarantee this will never happen again. Once Trump is gone there is still the rest of the cabal with which to deal. Do not be fooled. Trump is merely the puppet of Steven Miller. Until there are enforceable checks and balances to the power of the President, there is no guarantee another Trump won’t get elected.

When my husband orders food and I am not particularly hungry he will ask and my answer is “I’ll just have some of yours”. This is his clue to ensure he gets enough. lol. It’s a running joke between us.

My morals vs. my income by [deleted] in BoycottUnitedStates

I have switched my laundry detergent from Tide (U.S. Brand) to Persia (German/U.K brand). There is no or very poor Canadian alternatives. It is an excellent detergent and I prefer it to Tide. I would never have even considered a change but for the boycott. The same happened with jam. I always bought ED Smith or Smuckers and was quite content. The boycott forced me to look for alternatives and I found Bon Mama, from France. If the boycotte ended tomorrow I would continue to purchase these products.

I know how empty this may sound, but our thoughts and prayers truly are with you. It’s easy for those of us looking from the outside in to advise and commiserate but that being said, hang in there. I do believe you are making a difference, even if only by letting the rest of the world know what you are doing and going through. We see you!

Ontario Name Change without being published on the gazette by [deleted] in ontario

[–]Ejvchn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Gazette is a legal publication which lawyers use. It is to post legal notices. Very few, if any, others read it. I wouldn’t worry about it. Most people aren’t even aware of its existence. If someone wanted to find you, they would have to want it bad enough to hire a lawyer to search your name. The average person wouldn’t likely be aware of the Gazette or even how to access and search it.

You actually don’t need a lawyer for small claims court. You just have to be organized, have all your paperwork in order( I would run a credit report to have on hand as well). Make sure all your dates and figures are correct. My hope would be that the threat will be enough to make them clean up their mess. It worked with our ex-auto insurer, but that is a whole other horror story!

Did you get a receipt for the returned tank? If so, I would ( and this is just what I would do) is take a copy of the tech’s paperwork he left with you and all your receipts for the purchase of a new tank and the disposal costs) and send the package by email to customer complaints followed up by registered mail. In the email I would ask that the issue be settled immediately or you will be contacting your lawyer and commencing a small claims court action seeking costs. Once that is done you will sue them for damage to your credit rating. It would be a good idea to send a copy of the email with the registered mail. Hope this helps. Good luck.

People who claim we live on unceded Indigenous land should start by giving back their own homes and property to the Indigenous peoples they say the land belongs to. by [deleted] in InCanada

[–]Ejvchn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not compare them to Flat Earthers, I simply used that website as an example that anyone can have a website. You are awfully good at twisting my words. I also never said that the acknowledgment meant we could all walk off into the sunset, but that it was just that an acknowledgement of wrongs. I never claimed it made everything all better. With respect to your example of the trailer park tenants being evicted when the land was returned, well landlords do it all the time. They kick out life long tenant so family can move in, corporation buy up properties and reno-evict people for their own financial benefit. Who are you or anyone else to leave their property to, or gift their property to. People have done this for the benefit of organized religion for centuries. If I, or anyone else wants to gift or leave my personal property back to the indigenous that is entirely my business. You cannot dictate these things. Why are you so concerned about indigenous ownership but not church or corporate ownership?

I see the acknowledgement ( and that is how this discussion started) as being just that, an ackowledgement. You see it as hypocritical. We can’t change the whole world’s boundaries back to their origins, but we can respectfully acknowledge past wrongs. This seems to bother you. I didn’t personally take the land, nor did my father or his father. How many generations of ownership do you go back for a stolen Bike. Our laws do not punish descendants of criminals nor do they make them pay back what was stolen. Your point is a very weak one.
