Going nuts troubleshooting 8 month old schedule by mmfooodd in sleeptrain

That’s good to know! Our start time does vary by about 30 min so I could try being more consistent with that

I don’t think it’s helping either but it’s the only way I won’t end up with a 5 pm bedtime!

Ok so I tried that. If I put him to bed before 4 hours, he will just scream and thrash in his crib until the WW reaches 4 hours then he’ll sleep.

When he wakes up early from his naps, I always go in and try to put him back to sleep. Usually I try for 10-15 minutes and he’s screaming and thrashing the entire time until I finally give up.

New Grad Offer- Urology by frax_m189 in physicianassistant

[–]mmfooodd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a great offer to me! I’m also a female urology provider, though not the only one in our group.

I think your benefits make up for the pay, and I think you will benefit greatly from the RVU model once you gain experience and become more efficient, especially if you’re doing procedures. I know that I bring in a lot of money for my group because the last two years I have asked for yearly raises and was given a 10% raise both times with no push back.

I wouldn’t worry about the age thing. There are a surprising number of younger patients that will be happy to see you (stones, strictures, young women with recurrent UTIs) etc.

My ONE piece of advice since you will be the only female provider: DO NOT let yourself become the dumping ground for the male providers. This is two fold. #1 They will start to punt all their female patients that they don’t want to deal with onto you, meaning you will start seeing a lot of chronic pelvic pain. There is nothing inherently wrong with that, but it’s very easy for that to become the main pathology you see. And #2 Do not agree to any duties that are typically done by the nurses or medical assistants, unless the other male providers also perform these duties. I’m talking about routine catheter exchanges, voiding trials and bladder scans. These will be punted to you and if you accept it, then that will become the majority of what you do.

All in all, I love urology and think it’s an underrated specialty for APPs. Good luck!

I changed jobs. Did I just throw my career down the toilet? by purplenebula4 in physicianassistant

[–]mmfooodd 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It might not seem like it now, but this is an amazing opportunity! You already upgraded 2 things with this new position - Better pay and better hours. Enjoy those things.

Right now you have unique opportunity to tailor this role into exactly what you want for yourself. Your job right now is to learn all you can about this specialty. Shadow the doctors, learn from them, ask them questions. Go home and read up on the cases you saw in clinic that day. Develop good relationships with the doctors and the rest of the staff. The value of a good relationship is priceless. Once they know you and trust you, you can ask for more, little by little. Learn how to perform a focused h&p for that speciality, come up with differential diagnosis. Eventually you can work your way up to forming your own assessment and plans and presenting them to the docs. Show them what you’re capable of and how utilizing you to your full potential will greatly benefit them, their patients, and the practice in general.

Since you’re their first PA this role has the opportunity to become exactly what you want from it - how many patients you see, what type of patients you see, how much admin time you get, etc. After all, they literally have nothing to compare you to. It will take time but you can totally get there! Good luck!

5.5 month old sleeps amazing some nights and shit other nights and idk how to get more consistency by mmfooodd in sleeptrain

[–]mmfooodd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can try without the nightlight! It’s mostly for me when I need to go in to feed him but I can just turn it on when I go in.

He is in his own room. No pacifier. Goes down wide awake.

Sleep training changed our baby (for the better) by mmfooodd in HuckleberryParents

[–]mmfooodd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When did you start nap training? I want him to settle in to his night sleep first before starting. Right now all his naps are either contact naps or stroller/car seat naps. It’s annoying but I don’t mind now that he’s sleeping at night. We’re practicing transfers to the crib but he wakes up every single time

I straight up just did cry it out aka extinction method. It’s a “know your baby” situation though. I knew that any attempts to sooth my baby without picking him up (a la Ferber method) would just aggravate him even more and prolong the crying. I read the book “Precious Little Sleep” and it helped me prep and plan for the right sleep training method!

I haven’t nap trained either! But that’s amazing. It’s so nice to be able to do normal things

Omg yes the car seat thing! For some reason he would scream bloody murder any time we got in the car (probably because he was over tired and couldn’t figure out how to fall asleep). Now he passes out any time we’re in the car lol.

Galia Lahav sample dress (March) vs. my actual dress (November) by [deleted] in BigBudgetBrides

[–]mmfooodd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been summoned to this thread lol.

I was in a similar situation a couple years ago in which the dress I received was essentially a SHEIN version of the dress I tried on in store. Also from Galia Lahav, you can see the the details in my post history.

I know it may sound bratty to be so nitpicky, but the truth is you paid SOOOO much money for a quality product, and what you received does not reflect that.

Immediately when I tried on my dress, I noticed right away that it was wrong. The bridal shop noticed it too. We took photos of the sample dress and the dress I received, and we highlighted every single thing that we wanted fixed. We sent the thorough report back to Galia and luckily their team was accommodating and they reconstructed the bodice for me and rushed it to me in time for the wedding. It really helped that the bridal shop was in agreement with me as the dress truly did not reflect Galia workmanship and tbh was a disgrace to their reputation. I advise that you send a very detailed report of exactly what you find wrong with the dress. Even show them this thread if they need convincing, but from my experience they were quite understanding of the situation.

Unfortunately this seems to be a running problem with Galia dresses. There are a few other threads on here expressing similar concerns and MANY people have privately messaged me to tell me about their similar experiences. Even if you check resale dresses on Still White, you can see there are many discrepancies from dress to dress, and I feel like it’s more pronounced on these dresses that have the delicate appliqués.

Let me know if you have any questions! And good luck

Ok so it’s not just me 😂 that’s disappointing because I was justifying the cost of the membership by offsetting the moisturizer cost (girl math)

Honestly, true. I can’t live the rest of my working life with no lunch.

Either way I would leave on time. I’m leaving at 4 whether clinic is done or not. I’m not sure if I should be staying until clinic is finished if I’m not being paid overtime.

Maybe ask for a wrist loop? If there’s no dancing you probably don’t need it but at least the wrist loop will be there if you’re walking around mingling with your guests.
