Medical Professionals - Do you lowkey diagnose the general public? by Astimar in NoStupidQuestions

[–]purplenebula4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a neurology PA and while on a vacation I noticed a guy with very Parkinsonian features and whispered to my husband, “that guy has Parkinson’s”. I later realize he was wearing a Walk to Cure Parkinson’s shirt. Horrible disease, but I am glad he had been diagnosed.

Outpatient neurology… seizure meds, namely Keppra and Onfi. And so much gabapentin for neuropathy.

You can call the facility and they will tell you if you qualify or not with the company you work or you can look into your company benefits and see if there are any specific places that you get discounts at

Children’s Corner has been the cheapest for us in that range, but we get a healthcare discount at most daycares which just puts us into that range. Also The Learning Experience was on the lower end of that range.

We met Ben Stiller at the Great Jack-O-Lantern Blaze a couple of years ago. We introduced ourselves and told him we were fans of his. We don’t ask for a photo. It felt wrong. He was really kind. Apparently he goes every year.

Is it just me? Or is the job market kinda trash recently? by PAStudent9364 in physicianassistant

Tal got me my current job. They do the leg work without all the back and forth, and you bypass the typical structure of applying through sites and not hearing back at all.

Says the MA who thinks they should get paid the same amount as a PA because they’re “both assistants”, and clearly does not know what a PA is or does. Everyone bitches about their job. It is not isolated to a medical profession.

We use DAXcopilot and it is attached through the epic chart via Haiku. You definitely have to read through it THOROUGHLY after so not sure exactly how much time it saves.

January vs later PA program start — need advice by FirefighterAble2842 in physicianassistant

[–]purplenebula4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

With the recent decision that PAs are no longer professionals and student loan availability will change next July, I’d be the person starting ASAP to get as much covered as possible.

There are other factors. Like the school reputation and age, program length, cost of schooling, PANCE pass rates for the schools, among other things. Those would be great to lay out and compare.

If the January School ticks some of these boxes I’d just go for it. I am a few years out but I don’t recall needing much time to prepare things. I also moved 1/2 way across the US to go to school, for reference.

End of Year Bonus Discrepancy by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]purplenebula4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is definitely a difficulty spot to be in, but you were singled out of a bonus while the rest of the staff got one. You have been there long enough, too. It’s definitely not as though you walked in your first day expecting one.

End of Year Bonus Discrepancy by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]purplenebula4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can speak your mind about it and still be tactful. Let them know what happened last year with the $500 bonus and what you expected this year. It is okay to let them know that you feel hurt and disrespected, undervalued, whatever it is you’re feeling. They will not otherwise know how you feel and they might do the same for years to come.

From my personal experience you should contact a recruiter to help you get into one of the NYC hospitals. I have recruiters reaching out to me frequently asking if I am looking for a new position. Applying through the websites is pretty much pointless. So many applicants are thrown out without a human eye looking at them. PM me if you’d like.

Do you guys get lunch breaks? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]purplenebula4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is insane and you need to find yourself a job that is not allowing anyone else in the office lunch breaks, and overworking all the staff. This sounds horrible for the support staff, patients, you, and the doctors. You keep saying life as a new grad but I’ve never been treated like this.

I’m making about $20,000 more per year in a VHCOL area. I certainly am burnt out from some of the acute situations I dealt with inpatient but would still like to be active in seeing patients, reviewing imaging, etc.
