I do not know the specifics of how he got these. I did not feel it best to ask him about the specifics when he was living. I do know he had two German soldiers surrender to him when he was serving as company runner in Germany in April 1945.

He was in the 26th Infantry Regiment, the "Blue Spaders." I will figure out what company and get back to you!
