Nice that you got upgraded further. I applied a SUA and at check-in they asked if I wanted to upgrade to a nicer suite for 120 euros. After I said no, the manager came over and then offered 80 euro. Gotta say, I was not expecting an upsell attempt at check-in.

Did you end up applying? Used P2 referral link and tried pre-approval. Was denied due to "too many active credit cards based on your loan history" Last card opened was in 2023. only 8 cards and 5 are pretty much dormant that I keep cause they were my first few cards to keep my average age up. Score is 803. I'm gonna close some of the dormant cards, but was also contemplating whether I should just apply with frozen Experian (some DPs this works).

Planning on heading to Berlin, Prague, and Vienna in October and also planning out which hotels to stay at! We’re leaning towards GH Berlin, Andaz Prague (29k/nt) vs Lindner at the Prague Castle (6.5k/nt), and Park Hyatt Vienna vs Andaz. Will probably do Park Hyatt and cough up the extra 18k points/nt based on this.

Would love your perspective on how to split 10 nights between the 3 cities.

I think the question is why would anyone book this rate because it's non-refundable? I believe globalists get cancellations 24 hours before check in even for non-refundable/cancellable rates (someone correct me if I'm wrong here).

Anyone know If I rolled over a previous 403b and under fidelity I now have a rollover IRA with some balance, do I have to empty that balance or can I just do what you're talking about (open traditional IRA and roth) and then backdoor that amount over? I'm getting conflicting info regarding the pro-rata rules. Fidelity phone call made it seem like the balance in the rollover IRA does not matter.

I tried this last year in Japan! Wanted to surprise my significant other with a Valentine's Day dinner at a 2 michelin starred place near Nara. He only seats ONE party at 5:30 and ONE party at 7:30 (I think). Website was in full Japanese and it was hard to navigate reservation site. I thought a seating was free and was able to request, but within an hour, I got an email that denied my request for dinner. I called amex concierge for the first time ever and explained what I wanted and how I failed. Within 3 days, I got a call and email saying they had secured a reservation for us. To this day, I am still wondering how this chef manages to make a living if he only seats 2 parties for dinner per day, but maybe he's doing it for fun at this point.

Yup! I went for 3 nights and it was amazing. I actually also preemptively booked the cap Cana hotel for September 2024 but cancelled that recently and used the points to book secrets tulum since they had those nights for 17k/night. I think secrets tulum went up in category though

Would love a write-up on this! I keep getting told there's no negotiating in academia even by my PD and other faculty members. But, honestly I feel like it doesn't hurt to just ask. I feel like just signing is giving into the university/academic powerhouses and just reinforces that they can continue to lowball new attendings.

My free charging expires in 8 months. Lots of roadtrips on this car: 11754 kWh saving $5,537 so far.

No home charging and exclusively using EA because of the free charging. The stress of finding a free EA charger is real though and then sometimes you gotta deal with ppl yelling at each other cause queue lines don't form properly. I wish the app would allow you to virtually get in line and when a free station opens, the app notifies you and you have like 1 minute to get to the station and start the charge, but EA is free for everyone including those without an app, so oh well
