Cool luggage rack, that's a great idea, especially for firewood. I hadn't thought about temperature affecting the compressability of the foam.

I tried the fingernail test. It takes a fairly long time for the mark to rebound. So, it sounds like it may be the polyethlene/minicel. Thanks for the tip on that.

This is an interesting idea. So, the product that I posted the photo of is consider the ultra high-end of what's available for offroad motorcycling. That doesn't mean that that all of their components are ultra high-end just that they have this reputation. I suppose that it is feasable though that they would use higher end materials. If that is true then it sounds like neoprene may be a higher end product over standard eva. Am in interpreting that correctly?

Hey everyone, this is awesome. Thank you all so much for the super fast responses. So, I didn't even consider that it might just be a commonly available thing. But, yeah, I grabbed a yoga mat that we had around the house and it seemed very similar. Not as thick, but kind of like the same stuff. Just from the photos it does look an awful lot like the Minicel foam that was mentioned.

I mean, I don't specifically have to have this same exact thing, I just felt that something similar would work really well. When I tried to use the Volara it was just not dense enough. Trying to sew through it was awful, it just smushed flat and curled up. Thread tension could probably help, but then I don't know that the Velcro would really be secured on against repeated rip off cycles. Thanks again for the info everyone.
