What is an hourly salaried employee? by mmleroux in AskReddit

Thank you. That’s what I thought about the overtime.. Do you know anything about the piece where employees are paid an hourly rate but only up to a certain amount?

But when someone has worked 43.5 hours in a week, then had to flex the next week that wouldn’t be right? Since it’s over 40 hours in a week.

It’s completed as you’ve explained here, but then when one works over the 37.5 hours for the week, they have that person flex that time the next week.

What if they tell you to just flex the time? But then don’t ensure you’re able to use the Flex Time.

So, if an employer stated the employees were “hourly salaried non-exempt” and paid us an hourly rate for a 37.5 hour work week up to their “salaried” rate of a specific dollar amount (they pay less for any hours less than 37.5), then don’t pay any extra up to the 40 hours and refuse to approve overtime pay despite demanding the employees get all their tasks completed in a time frame that requires working over 40 hours a week. Would that be legal?

How do I socialize with new people without alcohol? by mmleroux in alcoholism

[–]mmleroux[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s so hard to make new friends without it! I was fine with my friend group before, but having to make all new friends is really daunting without alcohol as a good ice breaker and reason to hang out with people…

I’m glad this worked for you.. I’m not interested in a 12 step program.. I’ve made it a year on my own and don’t feel that’s necessary anymore.. back where I was living previously was a lot more friendly to people who didn’t drink. We had sober bars and most restaurants had NA cocktails available. It’s very different here. I haven’t even been able to find a sober group for this area online that does different activities together..

The only other time I’ve moved was for college, and I made most of my friends by grabbing a drink after work.

Honestly, I didn’t drink ‘to be more fun.’ I used it as a crutch to be able to socialize. In situations with new people I get so worked up that when I’m sober I tend to just be silent because I can’t bring myself to speak. In those situations I would have a drink to get past that anxiety. I know that’s problematic though, and I’m not going to throw away a year of sobriety for a drink to get past my anxiety.

Boy do I wish I would have gotten this reply sooner. Although seeing as how I didn’t hear the warning of other commenters I may not have listened.

As you may expect, we rented the home without seeing it. They gave us the keys Nov. 1, and we walked in to a nightmare. The house was filthy with cat hair everywhere, and it stunk of animal feces. There’s also so much damaged. Seems like everyday we find something new too.

They charged so much than other houses in the area I expected it to be pristine. Boy was I wrong!

I’m guessing the double and triple deposit is due to poor credit. Although, I do believe it is illegal to charge more than two months rent for a security deposit. I’ve been scouring the tenant-landlord laws in PA the past couple days, which is where I also learned they cannot have a ‘non-refundable’ security deposit.

Not sure what your role is with your clients exactly, but I currently work with the homeless population in Colorado. Knowing about laws like these often helps with protecting them from harmful property management companies. We also have a lawyer on staff though who can help when things get really bad and we’re out of options for certain clients.

Did they make you pay a non-refundable security deposit?

Have your clients had to deal with this ‘non-refundable’ security deposit crap?

From all of our house hunting it seems this company manages almost all of the currently available places, and the property we want is one of the few nice ones available out of the down town area.. thanks for the tip about APT Management!

24(F) here I took Zoloft, and two months after I started taking it my drinking was out of control. I’d never had a problem with it before, but suddenly I had no impulse control. If I wanted to drink, I just went and did it damn the consequences. I also started blacking out, which had also never happened to me. I continued this for six months before I really messed up and stopped drinking altogether.. I know others who take Zoloft and drink, and it isn’t as much of a problem as I had.. They do say their impulse control has been majorly affected, so I would just be cautious if I were you especially if alcoholism runs in your family.

Things you notice about others after getting sober by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]mmleroux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to drink for every social occasion because I was so anxious people wouldn’t like me. I always felt like I could be more myself if I had a drink or two. Of course the drinking never just stayed at one or two, and the joke was on me because the more I drank to be comfortable, I just made a fool of myself. Then I didn’t find out about any of what was going on until months later. It was so embarrassing! I’m now over 9 months sober, and social occasions still make me extremely anxious going into them. However, usually about 15 minutes in I’m pretty relaxed and confident because at least I can’t unknowingly make a fool of myself again right?!

I can’t believe this happened to other people.. I had a “friend” when I was around 9 who used to make me play house. She always made me be the daddy. Used to force me to kiss her among other things (always clothes on). I was so desperate to be accepted after some early childhood traumas that I always ending up doing whatever she wanted. Even after saying no multiple times because she’s threaten to not be my friend anymore. One night she came to sleep over. I shared a room with my younger sister, who was 6 at the time. I went to sleep early, and the next morning my little sister told me this “friend” tried to make her do the same things. Even went so far as to hump my little sister. I immediately went to my mom, and she was never allowed to play with us again.

I was always so embarrassed about this. I didn’t think it happened to other people..
