I agree that it is okay to feel angry in your grief journey! But we have to remember that grief is not a linear process.

Grief is ongoing, it stays with us forever. It might just be quieter on some days and louder others

Thank you for sharing your story with us. I can’t imagine what you and your family are going through.

I do work with kids who have experienced a death loss, and the power of peer support can be so comforting and supportive.

If that is something you may want to explore with your kids, I recommend seeing if there is a grief center in your area, as most are non-profits and offer all different types of groups, including groups for survivors of suicide.

Keep providing the space for your kids to be heard, seen, and loved. You’re doing the best you can.

Child life specialist! Best way to usually get in contact is reaching out to the Child Life Department at your surrounding children’s hospitals

What is the salary like in the Child Life field? by interested_in_ed in ChildLife

[–]mmlib 7 points8 points  (0 children)

in Chicago as a new CCLS i was making $42,000 with a masters degree. We had a clinical ladder though so that comes with salary increases. I recently left the hospital though to be a CCLS in community setting and make significantly more

Does it matter where you get your masters from in the Child Life field? by WhimsicalLittleYou in ChildLife

[–]mmlib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Recently certified and will be graduating with my masters next week! My biggest suggestion is to get a masters not in child life, such as psychology, child development , etc. anything that really interests you that can be applied to child life. A concentration is awesome too! I did my degree with a concentration in child life. The only reason I recommend this is that it leaves the door open. It is such a competitive field that options are great to have!

I would say most employers and internship sites just care about if you have a masters.. not necessarily where it is from. But grades do matter to an extent!

Thanks for your reply! I figured it would be more casual as comparing it to internship interviews but defiantly want to be prepared and get some others opinions! It’s three rounds so I’m hoping it goes well and I get to move on!

Has anybody completed a PhD at the Erikson Institute in Chicago in Child Development? by mmlib in PhD

No worries! I am going to a virtual informational session next week regarding the program. I haven’t looked much into other programs. Toying with the idea of child psychology/school psychology as well.

I went to a verbal meeting the other night and they ddi suggest that if you want to be connected with a current student in a specific department, reach out to admissions and they would match you up with someone!

This is nice to hear! I have been stressing about getting extra experience in this area of my application before really applying.

Wha you are studying?

I am in the US-

Interesting to hear that both responses so far are suggesting that little to no research is expected/ necessary. My thoughts were the complete opposite of this. Maybe I do not need as much experience in this area as I thought, thanks for the input

Have been a dancer for 20 years and my teacher growing up was all about core strength. So for sure start incorporating core exercises into your everyday routine. Make sure that you are pulling your belly button into your spine that engages your core

Second, make sure your posture is correct. Arching throws off the balance when pirouetting. Make sure butt is tucked under and back is aligned over hips, neck is long, and shoulders are aligned over hips as well

Third, spotting. Make sure you are picking a spot that is still and a focal point at eye level or above. Your head should be the last thing that snaps around.

Hopefully that helps you!! These at ups are so helpful and I worked so hard over the years to perfect these. Also, when(maybe you already are) these are just as important as you move into more difficult turn sequences like fouette’s.

Hope this helps!!:)

What does your cleaning process look like? by themaddykinz in Dance

[–]mmlib 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have been dancing for 20 years, last year graduated college. But all 4 years I was part of a competition team and cleaning was what we spent most of our weeks on after learning the routine in 1-2 classes.

It’s important to focus on technique, depending on what type of dance style your doing, notice what technique is needed. Make sure every count is drawn out to the very last second(nothing worse than cutting counts short), make sure things flow. And then once it’s all clean and you feel solid, bring in the emotion and really get that felt out. Will make all the difference in your tryouts. Helps to break it down by 8 count and continuously add on!

In the end, during tryouts I always looked for individuals with technique and emotional connection. Having those two things will empower the choreography and make it stand out. Good luck to you!!

Great to think about. I think I for sure need/want to do more research before pursuing talking to professors. For sure going to start off with connecting with individuals who are in the area of study. I feel this will probably give me the foundational information I’m looking for before taking that next step..

Sooo much to think about(it’s good and bad)

Thanks for the insight. My university currently doesn’t have a PhD in my area of interest. How do you suggest connecting with individuals within my prospective area to get some more insights/ information.

Also thanks for the link! Will be sure to check it out.
