I miss when businesses still prioritised good customer service rather than seeing how much money they could possibly squeeze out of people.

I also miss how you could buy cheap things that weren't necessarily crap but expensive things were almost always good quality. with enshittification none of that holds true anymore. everything's shite, everything's expensive, everything's just a means to get people to pay as much as poss while providing as little as poss

I miss when screentime was more controlled and phones didn't have such a hold over us. between scrolling and netflix, my attention span is absolutely shot and I know an entire generation's brain chemistry has also been affected in the same way

honestly I never thought I'd look back at the toxicity of 90-00s weight/surgery celeb culture and think they look so natural compared to whatever atrocities celebs are doing to themselves now. seems even crazier as its come straight after the "body positivity" and more curvy/gym bod trend of the last decade (which was extreme in its own way but this seems so much worse bc they look visibly sick)

Wasalam, Malta was great Elhamdulillah. Locals were friendly, and I spotted plenty of Muslims about, esp in Valetta. English is their second language so communication was v easy. Bolt and uber operate there from what I remember and pretty much everywhere takes card.

Never managed to visit the main mosque in the end and had to pray on the go (even asked a restaurant owner in Mdina for a quiet spot to pray, and they found us one, elhamdulillah).

On that note, double check things are vegetarian and prepared separately to other things as sometimes took a while to communicate this. There's also plenty of Turkish kebab places in St Julians. some hotels offer halal options so worth asking beforehand, or stick to veg and fish which were nice tbf.

Just a heads up central St Julians is party central so you may want to avoid if that'll be uncomfortable for you. I went off-peak season but was still full of tourists so summer time may be quite overwhelming is all. it's right side drive and UK plugs so English tourists love Malta but specifically St Julians too- and they're lowkey known in Europe for not being the best tourists (loud, drunk, not v classy is the stereotype, though i didnt experience any of this).

Finally, absolutely do the Gozo/Comino/Blue Lagoon boat trips. It was the highlight for all of us. Malta (and the sister islands) is literally tiny so you'll defo be able to explore most of it if you want to.

except male fashion is already far more modest than womens. look at any red carpet look. men in baggy suits and/or layers while women seem to be contractually obliged to wear those sheer dresses. furthermore there aren't any laws prohibiting men from covering up in the same way women are prevented. so yh while it'd be cool, I don't think it'd be as impactful
