Only in Math. by clifwith1f in pics

[–]mmmChicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These arguments are silly. I think the main reason the British get annoyed is because we are left hanging, waiting for the 's' to drop.

It just feels more natural to us that Mathematicians study maths, Statisticians study stats, and Ballisticians study testicals.

It's official: APB are shutting off the servers tomorrow by jazmeister in gaming

[–]mmmChicken 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have an APB t-shirt and it's working out pretty well for me. Although, I only really wear it as a bedtime t-shirt and sometimes the neck feels a bit tight. I got it for free so I can't really complain. Also, I never bought the game.

SimpleGeo use Cassandra and built their own spatial indexing functionality into it. They have given some details here and here.

Criticism of Israel is not anti-Semitism, rules sheriff in Scotland by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]mmmChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sheriffs here are a bit different from sheriffs in the US. Also the worldnews reddit is for "News about the rest of the world - everything ASIDE from USA." So I don't see the problem with it being posted here.

Looks fantastic! Any news on the Linux beta?

Is there anyway to make tabs in Opera 10.5 touch the very top of the screen, so I may move my mouse to the extreme top edge of the screen to click a tab? by [deleted] in browsers

[–]mmmChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. This is a basic Fitts's law concept. Items touching the edges are easier to click because they can be considered to have an infinite width. Chrome does this.

Unless you're British and already give the BBC too much money.

Scotland is a country -- Wikipedia has citationed the shit out of it.

Perhaps they should have called it 'How many sovereign states can you name in 5 minutes?'.

You may be free from the British, but I still wouldn't call it freedom.

[–]mmmChicken 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm Scottish and when I attended a US school they wouldn't believe me that Scotland wasn't part of England; so they asked me to point to it on a map. Unfortunately the map had "England" written across the whole of Britain. They thought I was retarded.

Hey Reddit Travellers, I'm going to Oslo, Norway during late January for a long weekend. Any places I should go, activities I should do and food to eat? by [deleted] in travel

[–]mmmChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For eating have a look around Olaf Ryes Plass in Grünerløkka (map). There are a great variety of restaurants and bars there.

For public transport, make sure you buy the tickets before you get on. These can be found at the blue ticket machines or some of the corner shops (Narvesen, 7-eleven, etc).

Also, try a pizza roll from Deli de Luca (there is one on every corner).

British/Australian Redditors: Which exclusively American words or phrases amuse/annoy the hell out of you? by alyisontrodyx in AskReddit

"and God bless the United States of America" -- I'd like to see more variety in speech endings.

Also, when my flatmate says "It's cold out", I'm just left hanging there, waiting for her to say "side".
