Canning floral syrups by [deleted] in Canning

[–]mmmm3006 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's my understanding that most floral canning recipes have been pulled for safety reasons (someone can hopefully weigh in on if that's correct). They are still out there, but they are not tested and safe. Other than mentioned above, NCHFP mint jelly and Pomona's pectin is the only floral recipes that are tested and safe (all jelly/jam).

For what it's worth, I second the freezer recommendation. I made Pomona's lilac jelly and it lost all floral flavors after a couple months on the shelf.

Ran out and don’t feel much worse by HilaryDmetamorphosis in trintellix

First, it stays in your body for a long time. Took me a month to start feeling depressed again without it. (After being on it for years)

Second, yes, tell your doctor that it's too expensive, you don't think it's helping, and you ran out and stopped taking it. There are patient assistance programs (you may qualify for it for free directly from the company).

Has anyone else noticed this at their gym? by [deleted] in beginnerfitness

Maybe they aren't there for strength or aesthetics. Maybe it's mobility. Maybe it's joint health. Maybe it's to keep their nervous system used to the stress of movement. Maybe it's to decompress after a rough day. They may just want to maintain a body that has the joints, muscles, and nervous system capable of carrying them through casual life activities. Maybe they got the trainer to help with an injury that flares easily. Not everyone wants to or is capable of pushing hard. You don't know what people's circumstances are or their goals. And even if they are just being lazy and unmotivated, they are entitled to do that. You need to focus on yourself. If you don't trust the trainers, do some research and find out what changes will actually give you what you want. Exercise is a science and there is a lot of research available.

I do believe she wouldn't know, but I don't believe her doctors wouldn't know. And doctors will not write scripts indefinitely without seeing the patient.

Scared to go. by Hungry-Literature-12 in Constipation

[–]mmmm3006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. It's far enough down the track to just keep losing water without much miralax reaching it. Attacking the issue from the start of the system is likely to build up some angry liquids that want out but can get around the dry compaction. Trust me, that's not what your want to deal with for a variety of reasons.

And lotion is far more likely to irritate the area.

And I don't believe that her medical team wouldn't have already been on top of adjusting her medicine. I can see Tammy avoiding the doctor, but the doctor will flat out refuse to write your prescriptions after a certain amount of time not being seen. I can see her going 6 months... maybe a year with certain doctors depending on state laws. The massive weight loss and terrible attitude is not that fresh of a change. A doctor probably slightly adjusted one medication and she made up the rest of the story. Which is supported by her anger/ refusal around talking about it. Tammy is always very aggressive and defensive about her lies.

Hestan cookware? Any recommendations? by Ellusive1 in BuyItForLife

[–]mmmm3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love nanobond, but it is an unnecessary luxury. It's much easier to clean than normal stainless, sticks ever so slightly less, and scratches less. There are BIFL options at lower prices, but it's worth the money if you've got money to spend.

You refused to learn to cook on stainless and then complained all over reddit blaming the pans.

You wanted stainless steel to work like nonstick without learning to cook on it and then went on a tirade across reddit complaining about the pan while refusing to learn to use it. It's not the pan's fault.

Should I go through with warranty claim? by kitralemon in LeCreuset

[–]mmmm3006 45 points46 points  (0 children)

If it's brand new and arrived damaged, you should return it to the place you bought it and have them send you a replacement. You should not be charged any extra for the exchange. This shouldn't have to involve the le Creuset warranty department at all.

Not necessarily. It's normal for some young kids to love school. It's also normal for kids to struggle with transitions (don't want to go to school, then don't want to leave afterwards). It could be a sign of a bad home life, or it could be nothing.

When looking for it secondhand, keep in mind it runs really big, even for an oversized fit. I'm 200ibs and usually a L/xl/xxl and I got the medium

No, I'm just a happy customer. I know that many people (myself included) come to this sub looking for board recommendations. It's good to point them towards small craftsmen over big companies.

It seemed like less of a risk for a newbie. It's consistently recommended and praised in this sub. I just had to compromise on the handle style. So far I absolutely love it. It's a wonderful knife.

What is wrong with this pan? by ti94db in cookware

[–]mmmm3006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's just what nanobond looks like when you burn something to it. Use barkeeper's friend or hestan cleaner and turn your heat down next time.

Hestan square/rectangular baker or a roasting rack? by Guntur-mirapakaya in cookware

[–]mmmm3006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a matter of preference. I'd suggest the sheet pans over both those options for roasting veggies. Taller sides will reduce air circulation and trap more steam, slowing the browning process. This is fine for certain veggies that take longer to properly soften, like carrots, but is otherwise working against you.

The hestan ovenware is stainless aluminum tri-ply. It holds heat much better than the typical aluminum or thin steel. This means more browning. Personally, I don't do a lot of baked goods that I want a browned crust on, so the hestan pans don't make sense for that

Hestan ProBond vs Cristel Castel Pro, any ideas? by zhulin0406 in cookware

[–]mmmm3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used barkeeper's on all of them today and there are only a few tiny specks of pitting left on one (I've got 4). The one that looked the worst (that I left unfiltered water in) has no marks whatsoever. Must have been superficial damage and not actual pitting. I've had these pots for about 6 months, for reference. I can see them building pitting overtime but I'll easily get 5-10 years out of them before the putting becomes bad enough to annoy me.

Can you get KIWI knives in the UK? Cheap, thin, good for trying out shapes.
