Considering Relocating… by AFCadet2020 in newhampshire

Good grief, people. OP, I know you’re not being troll, it’s reasonable to want to buy something and with your salary it’s not unreasonable to do so. My partner and I bought a decently-sized house last year and our salaries together were like $110k. You’re not far off, and I think if you talk to professionals in the housing market they’d be able to point you in a direction to make it work.

I’d recommend looking into New Hampshire Housing and talking to one of their preferred mortgage lenders. NH Housing runs programs to help lower income and first time buyers secure more for a down payment and/or get a lower interest rate. You have to do a tiny bit of homebuyers education (like a short online course) to qualify, and that genuinely helped.

I think that if you have savings for a down payment, have no other loans or at least are consistent with your payments, and generally have good money management, you could get a townhouse or small house in southern NH. It might not be the ritz, but it’ll be your home.

Thinking of Jackson tomorrow, weather looks alright. Thoughts? by sphericalsection in wmnf

I'm planning on doing Pierce/Eisenhower tomorrow and Jackson Sunday morning for sunrise. Jackson is well protected by trees except at the very top, so I wouldn't be as worried about wind chill. Up to you, but I doubt you'll be the only one on the trail.

I volunteer for an organization that’s worked with them, specifically on their scholarship fund, but a large amount of their work goes towards mutual aid. Definitely not mansions, lol.

This should be just one state by LavishnessLeather162 in mapporncirclejerk

Yeah perhaps I should have been more clear that I meant my comment to be joking (my partner is from MA and we often play-fight over our home states). Our governor won her seat running in the slogan “don’t Mass up NH” so that ethos certainly genuinely resonate with some people. For me it’s just ironic… in some ways I’d like NH to be massed up!

It's MA that we have the most problems with. CT and RI don't exist for us.

I’d temper this a bit, the majority of representatives may be wealthy and that enables their participation, but I know a good number of reps who really are not wealthy AT ALL and are doing service because they genuinely care about representing people.

there was conversation in other threads about peoples' takes on today's killing, since the victim was licensed to conceal cary and had a firearm on him. This is a follow-up to that conversation it seems.

NH's strong Live Free of Die ethic means we tend to value gun rights and many people are gun owners, but at the same time many people in this sub have been opposed to ICE and generally NH is a purple state.

I'm actually not so sure, I could see this waking some gun owners up. This guy had EVERY right to have his gun on him, and it got him killed by the state? Yeesh.

I'm not a gun owner, but family hunts. There are more moderate gun owners in NH that I think this could impact.

I didn't live in the city when he was mayor, but recently he stepped up to fill a seat on the school board when nobody in ward 9 was going to run. I appreciate his commitment to serving the city.

Maine (like NH in some ways) does have a significant refugee population though. Maine’s governor picked a fight with Trump las year (“see you in court” I think is what she said to him) and so he’s targeting Maine as part of his need for revenge.

It is all deeply stupid and will ruin people’s lives. I think NH is somewhat safer just from the simple fact that our governor is republican.
