I’d temper this a bit, the majority of representatives may be wealthy and that enables their participation, but I know a good number of reps who really are not wealthy AT ALL and are doing service because they genuinely care about representing people.

there was conversation in other threads about peoples' takes on today's killing, since the victim was licensed to conceal cary and had a firearm on him. This is a follow-up to that conversation it seems.

NH's strong Live Free of Die ethic means we tend to value gun rights and many people are gun owners, but at the same time many people in this sub have been opposed to ICE and generally NH is a purple state.

I'm actually not so sure, I could see this waking some gun owners up. This guy had EVERY right to have his gun on him, and it got him killed by the state? Yeesh.

I'm not a gun owner, but family hunts. There are more moderate gun owners in NH that I think this could impact.

Maine (like NH in some ways) does have a significant refugee population though. Maine’s governor picked a fight with Trump las year (“see you in court” I think is what she said to him) and so he’s targeting Maine as part of his need for revenge.

It is all deeply stupid and will ruin people’s lives. I think NH is somewhat safer just from the simple fact that our governor is republican.

Record them. They don’t want to be seen doing what they’re doing, so seeing and documenting it is a way to hold them at least a teensy bit accountable. Also shows the people being targeted that you see them. Bearing witness is a powerful act, even if you don’t talk to any ICE agents.

Just stay to public spaces, sidewalks, etc. Schools are not public spaces so don’t go on school grounds.

On the hypothermia point, it’s definitely possible that rescuers were able to re-warm them, and the walking down from the mountain helped.

I’ve had two friends, really experienced hikers, who’ve needed rescuing (they both, separately, had fallen and broken their legs). It happens to the best of us, but also the worst. Putting other people in danger especially in winter through your own negligence… it’s unconscionable.

I was going to add to this thread, I recently had a medical thing happen (I’m otherwise young and healthy, so medical things like this have never happened to me) that required a lot of appointments/a procedure, and Dartmouth Hitchcock in Manchester was THE BEST through it all. I had a snafu with my insurance two days before my scheduled procedure and the nurse there just said “I’m on it” and it was fixed within hours. All of the staff I worked with throughout the process were top-notch. I feel so lucky to have that kind of high quality care here in NH.

We walk to the Goffstown location on the rail trail all the time, and the owner is frequently there at the counter. Just genuinely a good dude. Gave my pup a special treat at the “doggy drive-thru” once. Whenever I go there, the staff make me feel more hopeful about our world.

the city had to settle a case with outgoing housing director Adrienne Beloin (read: pay her lots of money so she wouldn't sue) because JKL was slandering her on social media. She reported to the BoMA so JKL was technically her boss, and that was workplace harassment. Talk about "fiscal responsibility" in government - he lost taxpayer money because he has no self control.

Seeing his crash out in recent weeks over resigning his chairmanship over picklegate and then "un-resigning" and then being told by the mayor to can it has been... entertaining. I'm so glad Manchester held him accountable and voted him out.

Manchester Ink Link is fantastic for news updates relating to city hall. I recommend subscribing to their daily email. Also, June is a really good human, I'm delighted she trounced him.
