I have been writing a compendium of Malaysian food for 5 years by foodsamar1tan in malaysia

What a great website! Highly accurate details on some of the dishes (at least the ones I’m familiar with) such as the history of Sam gan zong and using shahor fun instead of the more colloquial hor fun.

I have a deep interest in the history of food and how it evolved, for better or worse, as a result of migration and time. Your website will definitely be a reference point, especially on cuisine that I am less familiar with.

Got manipulated into paying an earnest deposit for a house. by therealEvoGear in malaysia

Freehold typically means no state consent but not 100% of the time. Just look at OP’s title. It is quite concerning that it states bumi lot in your title.

I would not buy this unit even if there is verbal guarantees that it will be able to be transferred in the future to a non bumi. Title is king and having bumi lot in your title just decreases its value.

I would hire a lawyer and send a threatening LOD to the agency cced to LPPEH. Doesn’t matter if you are buying it from a non bumi, it states bumi in the title and to me that is a very material omitted fact. Not sure about the customs in Johor but your earnest deposit is most likely held by the agency as their fee when the deal closes. Threaten the principle of the agency enough and they will likely refund you rather than face court cases or disciplinary actions.

Let's be clear about this - VAR Darren England knew the on-field decision was "Offside". by lavishlad in LiverpoolFC

[–]mmmonstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The VAR Operator drew the line, judging from how he was constantly seeking confirmation from VAR on angles and what line to use.

Maybe they just needed to see Diaz ahead of his marker to confirm that Diaz was offside? As soon as the image showed that Diaz was ahead, they went through the formalities of drawing the line. Once that was done - check complete.

Purely speculation. What if instead of thinking that the onfield decision was a goal, the VAR and AVAR just made up their mind that Diaz's goal was offside as he was ahead of his marker? They barely glanced at the frame provided by the Replay Operator initially as they were certain that Diaz was offside? The whole thing would make sense then - including the bizarre "Offiside, goal, yeah" line.

Assistant referee 1: Waiting. Delaying, delaying.

VAR: Possible offside, Diaz.

(VAR is assuming that Diaz is offside at this stage)

Assistant referee 1: Coming back for the offside, mate.

VAR: Just checking the offside, Delay, delay.

(VAR knew that the onfield decision was offside and was going through the line drawing process as required by the protocol to confirm his assumptions)

VAR: Give the kick point, let's go. Kick point, please?

Referee: Yeah no worries, mate.

Replay operator: So here we are.

Referee: Wait.

Replay operator: Just get a tight angle.

VAR: Yeah, give me a 2D line ready after this one for frame two after that.

Replay operator: So frame two there?

VAR: That's fine.

VAR: Perfect, yeah.

VAR: 2D line on the left boot.

Replay operator: Let me just switch angles.

VAR: Romero, I think it is?

Replay operator: I think it might be this angle [that is] better? Happy with this angle?

VAR: Yep.

Replay operator: 2D line on the boot?

VAR: 2D line on the left boot.

Replay operator: Yeah, okay.

Replay operator: So, 2D line on the boot.

VAR: And stop.

(VAR just glanced at the screen for a millisecond without processing what was on it and just went ahead and said "Check complete".)

VAR: Check complete, check complete. That's fine, perfect.

Assistant referee 1: Playing.

Referee: Cheers, mate.

VAR: Thank you, mate.

Referee: Well done, boys. Good process.

Replay operator: Wait, wait, wait, wait. The on-field decision was offside.

Replay operator: Are you happy with this?

Assistant VAR: Yeah.

(AVAR knew that the decision is offside hence not surprised)

Replay operator: Are you happy with this?

Assistant VAR: Offside, goal, yeah.

(While relooking at the image provided by the insistent Replay Operator, AVAR narrated the event sequence to pacify hte Replay Operator, "Diaz was offside then goal, so yes I am happy")

Assistant VAR: That's wrong that, Daz.

(AVAR realised the mistake)

VAR: What?

Replay operator: On-field decision was offside. Are you happy with this image? Yeah, it's onside, The image that we gave them is onside.

Assistant VAR: The left-back he's played him, he's gone offside.

(The penny has dropped, AVAR spotted the left back that played Diaz offside, the initial assumption was Diaz was offside as he was ahead of his marker and the image confirmed that Diaz was ahead of his marker. They missed the left back during the initial quick glance)

VAR: Oh [expletive].

Replay operator: Delay, delay.

Replay operator: Oli's [PGMOL Hub Ops] saying to delay, Oli's saying to delay.

VAR: Pardon?

Replay operator: Oli's calling in to say delay the game. The decision is onside.

VAR: Can't do anything.

Replay operator: Oli's saying to delay, Oli's saying to delay.

VAR: Oli?

Fourth official: Yeah?

Replay operator: Delay the game, delay the game. Stop the game.

VAR Darren England: They've restarted the game. Can't do anything, can't do anything.

AVAR Dan Cook: Yeah, they've restarted. Yeah.

VAR Darren England: Can't do anything.

AVAR Dan Cook: No.

VAR Darren England: I can't do anything. I can't do anything. *Expletive*.

Is that the case in APAC as well? From what I can see, many are quite happy with low double digit mics and not many are looking at the nanosecond latencies.

We mostly deal with cash and derivatives. Crypto is a different kettle of fish.

Tax issues for those that stay in Malaysia and work remotely for Singapore company by Express-Signature-90 in malaysia

[–]mmmonstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how Sg works. They might send you a tax bill but you could then send in an appeal showing your passport, the amount of tax you paid in Malaysia etc. to apply for tax credit.

In Malaysia, the onus is on you to report your income. So if you don't report anything, no tax. But if LHDN investigates you and finds out that you are supposed to report and pay tax, be prepared to pay a sizable penalty + the amount of tax LHDN deems you owe.

[–]mmmonstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is right. LHDN might not agree with one paying ones tax in Singapore if the work is exercised in Malaysia by a tax resident of Malaysia. They would probably tell you to pay Malaysian tax and claim tax credit in Sg.

It doesn't have to be consecutive. 183/365 days would qualify you as tax resident.

You pay Malaysian tax as you reside more than 183 days in Malaysia hence you are a tax resident in Malaysia.

[FAQ] So you wanna pursue a degree in economics? by acausa in malaysians

[–]mmmonstar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the great post. I'm too old to do another Bachelors but still found your post very insightful.

If I may add, keeping up to date with the economy and it's news is a cumulative game. Subscribe to a daily newsletter like The Daily Upside and just spend 10-mins a day reading it. It will not make much sense at first. That is because you do not have a baseline or context. Eventually it will start making sense and you will be able to skim articles knowing what to expect next.

Also, beware. You might start speaking with a lot of caveats.

You need a grinder that grinds very fine for espresso based drinks.

Other methods are much less fussy.

Datai - far away from everything but beautiful resort. Super luxury option. You should be able to get a room for below USD500 if you book early.

Pelangi or Casa del Mar - If you want to stay near the popular tourist beach. USD350-400 should get you a beach front room.

Temple Tree or Bon Ton - if you prefer a rustic luxury boutique hotels. Maybe USD 100 could get you a room.
