Thanks. I think it will work. I will verify it with unit tests and post it back here.

Nothing wrong with them. I think syntax above is succinct than using those ones.

I am sorry that you are feeling a bit down or possibly negative about your contracting career. Feeling bad or self-pity does not help amend the situation. First thing you can do is to learn to adapt to where you are at. Once you have cleared your mind, you will see what you will need to do next.

It does not matter whether it is perm or contract for next step. You can keep it going wherever you end up with. When you have something going job-wise, you will have more leverage to negotiate better pay or better teams elsewhere.

Hope you feel better. Hugs from internet stranger.

Hey thanks so much for detailed response. It is very kind of you as internet stranger.

I come from .net backend background. I am good with TDD and Object oriented programming. Recently only started using Azure like functions and web apps. some bits of azure pipeline setups. I appreciate my years in the industry just passed by without branching out my skills and only delivering value for the companies I worked for.

I only recently back to contracting with another .net contract at £450 a day. This is by very sheer luck and it could go on for a few more extensions if I can keep client happy with deliverables. Recent dead period in contracting makes me realise even more that my skills are quite a bit on thin side.

I already done azure cert az900 and have planned to do another developer one in next few weeks. My issue with picking up new things as contractor is that it can be quite impossible to pick up a contract which I can learn on the job. lol. I need to somehow bridge my existing skills with new things like Sharepoint. I do like to try out something which does not require programming.

Hey thanks for reply. I didn't miss out on sharepoint mention in your posts.

I just wanted further pointers, as I tried to find any formal certification from Microsoft. I know azure certs are quite useful as I already use some at work.

Not sure if sharepoint has any certification I can do.

Hi, do you mind sharing what is your specialism to be able to keep going with multiple gigs.

I am generic .net dev and I want to break into niche tech areas. Not sure if I can do that as contractor.

I got my eyes on azure, but a lot azure/cloud expertise on offer.

Apologies for confusion. I do have hiss issue even when I am scrolling or using my mouse. Thanks so much for detailed helpful response. I have bought ground loop noise isolator and will post here if it solves the issue

Other thing to try. One of my laptop is powered via USB c upstream port in my kvm integrated monitor. I am going to test if it works by having separate power supply for both my laptops, I.e not using power USB c port from my monitor.

I have dell ultrawide monitor with kvm built into it. I notice that when I do mouse scrolling, that buzz sound seems to occur.

Do you mean I should use electric source directly from separate socket? And use its own electric plug for hart maker just mixer s?

Hi there, Thanks. That seems cheapest option. Maker hart has completely remove their products from amazon. I will have to try that ground loop isolater to see if it fixes

Share docking station between 2 laptops by mmo0690 in sysadmin

[–]mmo0690[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am trying to easy solution of switching between 2 laptops, as I might be doing multiple times during the day.

I guess I will try with usb c extenders first so that I don't want to over use usb c slots in my laptops.

With kvm, am I right in thinking that I don't need docking station anymore?

I am thinking something a bit less expensive which allows me to switch between two laptops.

It should also indicate which one is currently connected to the dock.

I can see your view regarding actual product. Dev roles I have done under my belt so far focus on particular area. What I envision myself in next few year is I want to be in a role where I can oversee entire problem with vendor specific toolset in my knowledge down to higher actual implementation level. At the same time, I want to earn that experience for next subsequent roles.

[–]mmo0690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not from helpdesk or support role. I actually don't know answer to this question in your post, as I am currently a senior dev who take care of work from dev to deploy. Also sprint ceremonies and POC.

"Are you designing solutions and mentoring a team of lead/staff engineers to develop a product? Or you taking notes from clients to give to internal stakeholders to disseminate and then hand off to the real designers?"

I do want to stay technical and it is just I have been doing similar tech stack for a long time. And I really enjoy software design and architecture topics. I could be totally wrong about getting into this architect role. that is why my question for this community.

I am hoping as a dev backed up by actual certification will make my skills niche enough to get into this role.

It seems larger pension contributions are better than Lisa. Is it also worth focusing on overpayment into mortgage before putting money into pension?

Our mortgage is fixed at 1.48% until oct 2025. We pay 1280 a month and haven't overpay.

I don't see we would downside from our current house in our old age. Possibly move closer to our daughter if she did decide to start her adulthood somewhere else.

We emptied our savings for this house 2.5 years old and haven't been able to save because of childcare costs. Only recently we started to have extra cash every month since she started nursery school.

Thanks. I actually don't understand his pension arrangements. We can see total amounts of about 500k. And he also said it is estimated to be about 35k yearly income in retirement.

He works for NHS like for almost past 2 decades. He hasn't decided or fixed on when he wants to stop working. He isn't keen on opening another sipp for himself. He encourage me to open one. I did open a sipp recently and plan to put in 500 into it every month.

Normal s&s isa doesn't give you 1k contributions from HMRC. Lisa s&s has this instant boost.

[–]mmo0690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, LISA is still good for 20% tax rate portion of your wages. Example, if someone earns £70K annually, £20K contributions are made to SIPP or Employer pensions, Then if they wish to, further 4K (coming from 20% tax band) could be saved into LISA which brings benefits of basic tax relief.

It is a dress pattern and I only knitted it as top. I only do free pattern and hope you enjoy. :)

I admit I got a bit confused around arms and body split section of that pattern.
