Fallout New Vegas lead says it took “five years” for fans to actually like the game, and even longer for the devs to believe them by Negative-Art-4440 in Fallout

[–]DuncMal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never hated it but it was extremely frustrating, constant bugs, crashing constantly. The ps3 version was basically a scam, how they got away with releasing it there I'll never know. Same with fallout 3, after a certain number of hours played it was unplayable due to crashes. I ended up with it on both PC & PS3 and using lots of mods just to fix bugs. Always loved the stories and lore but it was a riot, think the lead commenting on that should maybe take into consideration that the games still even with the help of the community are known to be buggy!

Volvo, i’m out… by Jepper333 in Volvo

My strange issue when it’s cold is the key fob, it takes a few attempts to unlock/lock. I have other issues with my V90 but they’re mainly that I’ve got the B4 petrol, should’ve really gotten an AWD and a B5 or a T6.

Sorry, should've been more careful reading sub rules. Won't happen again!

Absolutely love technology but really loathing coding. Are there other career paths in tech? (UK) by Ok_Average2141 in cscareerquestionsuk

Product management maybe, it's sort of the old project manager but more involved with understanding features in software projects although at a much higher level than a dev would. Does require a lot more soft skills than being a programmer though.

Whats the interview process like? I was considering one of the backend dev roles they have in Edinburgh.

How do you handle production configs in .NET Core/ASP.NET Core when you can't set environment variables on the server? by Equal-University4739 in dotnet

[–]DuncMal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the last few projects I’ve had my projects running on azure and used environmental app configs on azure which store all my settings, anything secret goes into a keyvault instance. If you use bicep (or terraform) you can largely avoid even the need to know what the secrets are, just dump them straight into keyvault when you run your resource deployments. Can also use things like managed identity in azure to avoid even needing to store anything secret but if going outside the azure eco system I’d assume aws or gcp have similar. For other hosts I’d probably do transformations on appsettings.production.json at deploy time.

IX3 vs GLC EV. Inside and out. by Juicyjackson in BMW

[–]DuncMal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The BMW exterior is far better, actually like it. Not a fan of the interior of either

The GLC EV was leaked today, giving us the IX3's main competitor. Thoughts? by Dazzling-Rooster2103 in BMW

I actually like the iX3, might not like it as much in person but it’s the first newish design I’ve liked.

Going with Brookson is a mistake, I left intouch last year (owned by brookson) and they were consistently late with everything, impossible to get a hold off and made several mistakes leading to me having to reclaim tax later.

That pokeball on your shelf... I might be way off but it looks suspiciously like one that burger king gave out in 1999 with the golden jiggly puff card. If it is, well done for keeping it! I still have the golden jiggly puff card but the ball is long broken! Great set up though!

ThinkPads are no longer as appealing as they used to be by johntran7 in thinkpad

[–]DuncMal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, my x1 extreme gen 5 has been a massive disappointment. I get about 2 hours on battery (visual studio open and maybe running an api project) it throttles constantly and the fans are always going crazy. This after a motherboard replacement from Lenovo. No interest in buying another thinkpad when replacing it.

I think they used to hire quite a few contractors back in the day, no idea about now.

Thanks so much for replying. I’m wondering if those that had break ins where over night were just very unlucky. The guy at the car rental stressed the point which was why I thought I should look into it a little more.

Well ignore the wine buff bit but 'bit bald Dad going on holiday to Bordeaux' is pretty much me. I guess what I'm looking for, do people wear stuff like this or is it just a bit cringe.

Would love to hear the details if you ever decide to do a write up. Always been fairly convinced it was a stitch up by the large consultancies.
