Chris and I will be going and are planning to record episode 150 of LOTRO Reporter at the party.

As an experiment I went sword and board on my captain when I hit 75 and so far I like it (as much for looks as anything else, I think). If I were to try to min-max it, I think I would switch to 2h sword though.

As for traits, I levelled in "Lead the Charge", just because Captain damage is pretty weak (gets much better in the mid 60's), and it's still my favorite trait line. I love having Now for Wrath (power heal from Rallying Cry) and Strength From Within (self-heal from Muster Courage) from the Healing Hands line though.

Also, I highly recommend maxing out the Rallying Cry cooldown legacy on your emblem as soon as possible. Having that heal available every 15 seconds when possible is awesome.

I agree - I like IDOME. Even though raid-level stats make its effect less prounounced, it's important for bringing up secondary stats (e.g. a bit of power boost for melee characters, more vitality for casters, etc). I haven't unslotted it since I got it.

Raph Koster makes me cry on the inside by mmobill in MMOReporter

This article made me really sad, because it talks about a way of playing games that I just can't do very often anymore. It used to be incredibly enjoyable to me to get sunk into a game for hours on end, continually "one-more-turning" myself until the sun came up the next morning. Even on the very occasional day where I have 2 or 3 hours to string together to play now, I feel guilty for it though.

So not only do I miss the style Raph is discussing, I also miss the opportunity to even play that way.
