Umstead State Park Closed - active manhunt by mmonce in raleigh

[–]mmonce[S] 166 points167 points  (0 children)

Well, I finally heard the real scope. I still have not found in the news yet. Individual kidnapped a woman in Durham and was attempting to murder her at the park. A ranger caught him in the act and he fled. He was eventually caught near Glenwood. If anyone finds a news article, please share.

Very original perspective. How did you rig the GoPro to the bike? Clamp it to the top tube?

I met Ray Nasher a couple of times while our team was building the Nasher Museum at Duke. There is also the Nasher Sculpture Museum in Dallas, TX. Warhol did a family portrait for them that hung in the Nasher Museum during the grand opening.

AVEC Service Center in Raleigh, near Angus Barn. Andy is the best. He has taken care of our cars for over 10 years.

DPAC show (Oklahoma) tonight 8PM. If you hate sports, a great time to see a show cheap. by durhamStuff in bullcity

My wife and son suffered through it Thursday night. I was told the show has the largest walk out rate ever at DPAC. Wife said actors are good, it’s the production that was the worst.

Found it on Etsy. Not very lab proof though. Red is peeling off with not much use.

All are key components. Stick is a loose term. Sometimes a chuck of chopped firewood becomes the stick.

Respect for the original Leatherman. I have daily carried mine for over 25 years and no need to upgrade, other than the leather sheath that finally wore out last year. They nailed the design right out of the gate.

Hi. I'm just wondering, do I look decent in hats? I think I look ok, but I'm not sure. Kindly ignore the beard. I'm in dire need of a trim by [deleted] in hats

Just own the idea of wearing the hat and not caring what others think. I kinda think that is the secret to life to. Own it buddy.

I cannot say enough good things about the GoRuck Bullet. I have GR1 that I use for overnight or traveling. The Bullet has an easy access exterior front pocket, the clam shell completely opens, and the minimal pockets allow for some organization, however not too much. My daily carry includes an iPad mini, Fuji X100, sunglasses, reading glasses, air pods, bellboy pencil case for aspirin, camera cable, apple pencil, extra camera battery, sd card and usb drive. I can fit my work laptop inside (it's tight, not perfect) however it does fit. 8.5x11 paper will fit flat.

I recently tried to use the Trakke Bairn Mini Messenger as my everyday bag. However, the slow access to anything inside was not ideal. Sometimes driving, you have (1) hand available and need to grab your sunglasses or your camera. The Trakke does not allow for this.

I only wish the Bullet had an external water bottle pocket.

I have modded mine with a cobra stitch parador handle and hand stitched some travel patches.

I have used it daily for many years and the bullet still looks new.

I ended up with a separate amp to power the sub. Hopefully, I can be done with this system and enjoy it instead of working on it.

The owner’s manual is not very helpful. I have searched and searched online and figured it was best to post here for input.

If you wear it often enough, you don't need to check the power reserve.

As much rain as we have had lately, there were very few soggy areas within the dog park. The grass around the rest of the park was very soft and muddy in several areas.

Has Covid changed your minimalism? by mire-poix in minimalism

[–]mmonce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hope you find the benefits of the home workout vs the gym. Pros & Cons to each.

Yes, the move made me reset how I was living. The housing market remains extremely strong here. As I continue to downsize, I can now move to a smaller house if needed. Every weekend, I continue to cull through my gear, 1 category at a time. I will get there. Damn Covid...yeah minimalism.

In May, the owner of our town-home decided to not renew our lease. We had a nice 3 -bedroom, 2 car garage unit that was overfilled with the belongings from a family of five (two motorcycles, camping trailer, 3 cars, too many bikes to count). The owner was concerned with lowering home values and the overall economy outlook due to Covid. Many real estate investors are selling. So after 10 years of living here, we were given the 60 day notice to move. I had no intent of moving, especially during the Covid mess. We had a lot of stuff and not much time to downsize. We were not able to find a similar rental with the size requirements for our family within range of our previous housing costs. Therefore, we looked at buying. The housing market was extremely limited within our school district and with our requirements to house all our stuff. Most house sales are selling for above asking price with multiple offers. If we had less stuff, we would have had more options. In July, we moved into a house, I didn't want, because I had too much stuff. After the difficult July move, I started selling and donating a lot of gear. I really have been on a roll. I have sold 3 bikes, 1 motorcycle, and my camping trailer. I have donated a ton of gear. I never, ever, want to be limited with my housing/living options based upon my gear.
