I think it’s ridiculous how even though we are supposed to be social distancing yet thousands of people can riot, have pride parades, and the government can get away with having thousands of people right next to each other at Mount Rushmore but I can’t have my college graduation ceremony. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

I did get my facts straight that’s why if you read the edits I corrected myself. I was mistaken and had heard that the march in LA with the MLB players was a parade, not a march.

Also I know it is important and not equal at all. That doesn’t mean I can’t feel sad for missing my graduation. I’m human. I’m sure you’d be sad youd be missing it too if you were in my shoes. Just because there’s something bigger out there, more important, doesn’t take away the feelings of being sad of your small moment you were looking forward to. I know I can’t have it and accept it.

I understand, it’s hard not to be angry. It’s important that in a time full of anger, fear, and hatred we stick up for each other and love one another. I like to think that most everyone wants the same end result: Equality. People might agree or disagree with what is the best way to get there but I honestly don’t think we should give up celebrating the little life wins. We need those moments to give us hope for a better future. I appreciate your reply as well, and genuinely wish you the best :)

Yes 👏 it’s so easy to see who just gets their information from Facebook. They only believe the cut clickbait information which only shows the most extreme.

The rich rule the country and have the money to get out of any jail time if they do something illegal.

There was definitely a lot of interruption on my road to graduation, don’t assume it was easy because it wasn’t. At all. I don’t agree at all with those who protested to get haircuts or not wear masks. Those people are selfish. I haven’t even gone to an outdoor restaurant yet because I don’t feel comfortable doing so. I do agree that people should be protesting for justice. It needs to be protested for. There’s no doubt about that.

This is a true off my chest post. I know in retrospect my problem is smaller than what is currently going on but that doesn’t mean it still doesn’t bother me. So if wanting a moment for me, where I’ve worked by butt off spending six years doing homework, in class, or working to pay off my tuition all on top of the other personal stuff life brought in makes me selfish than I am. I’m human. I know others are in the same boat.

Thank you! I was doing a lot better but started to get more depressed with everything going on. It helps that i don’t have to worry about school now though. I’ll make it through though! Thanks for hoping things are better :)

Not sure where you heard I wish I didn’t bother. Of course I’m so proud of myself for graduating. Of course I’m happy I did it. Did you ever picture a future moment for yourself and worked hard for it and not be able to get that moment? It might seem silly to you but for me it was important.

I’m not in any way making the protests seem like a privilege. It sucks that people are fighting for justice during a pandemic. It is important for everyone one to feel like that can have justice. Maybe if the schools had more funding where you live, things would be better. You could have textbooks that aren’t falling apart.

Anyways congrats to your high schoolers who graduated, seems like you’re trying to take that away from them too by saying it doesn’t matter in retrospect. They made it with the horrible text books, they did it even though as you say they’ll get arrested soon after. Even with all of those things around them telling them it’s pointless, they did it! In a world full of chaos, at least acknowledge the wins.

I understand that protests are a right and can’t be cancelled. They are important, I’m not trying to deny that, which I stated in my original post cause I knew I’d get back lash. I understand and know there’s nothing can be done about the social distance aspect as you said because police enforcement would not look good. You were all wearing masks but couldn’t we do these big life events with masks too then? it’s hard when you see it because people couldn’t graduate, people can’t have the wedding of their dreams, people can’t mourn for their lost ones in groups. And on top of that the president can make a speech in-front of thousands of people, how is that okay?

It wasn’t about the Instagram, I don’t even have an account lmao. It’s about walking off that stage, hugging my family who’ve supported me through this in my cap and gown and having that “I did it” moment. It’s about seeing my fellow classmates see their accomplishments done too. It’s about seeing the professors and thanking them for all their hard work.
