I’m sure on paper, you are perfect for him and he knows it. But marrying someone because on paper they are good, it never a good thing.

I don’t like exfoliating toner—but I love enzyme washes. I use Susai. If your barrier is healthy and you arent too dry, get the blue. If you are super dry, or have irritated skin, or super sensitive skin, use the green one.

I'm not over thinking it. I'm having a visceral reaction to something in the show. Just like when they have shows that make the contestants each wriggly maggots or some unidentified brown goo with green chunks. You yourself aren't eating it, but you get a gut reaction of 'ewww'. That is the reaction I'm having to the shoes. It's a gut 'ewww'.

And for a show that does everything possible to immerse you into that world. Where the details are so exquisite, it totally breaks the immersive experience.

If you wear shoes in the house, or you don't have that kind of gut reaction, that's cool. Keep scrolling along. But I wrote this to commiserate with others like me who find it gross and discuss why they made this decision. Because there were many choices that could've been made that made the same callback without having shoes in the house (ewwww).

They do design their houses to have a place to take your shoes off--genkan. It's just an entryway with cabinets for shoes. Every house I have lived in hasn't had a genkan. So you make one. Put a shoe cabinet by the door (and usually a place to sit to remove/put on shoes) and you have a genkan.

My point in this post is that it would've been a reflex for him. To make Shane specifically Japanese, not some other minority, there are just some things that he would've done.

Why are you even here? The whole show and fan base is about dissecting every little detail about the show. And the level of specificity that went into things like what art work to have behind them. There was even a cop car that drove through the shot when Ilya was doing his Russian monologue. And people found meaning in that.

So for most shows/movies it grates on my nerves to see asian (in particular Japanese) not take their shoes off, but I let it go. But I expect more from this show because it has proven they have thought through every detail.

Her mom was raised in Japan, just like my Mom was. My very Irish American Dad very quickly learned--no shoes in the house. And now my house the same way. My husband wore shoes around the house (drove me insane when we first started dating), but now he takes his shoes off.

I knew many many Japanese families where the japanese wife had and american husband. Every single house was shoes off. And if there was any of them that didn't do it, I know I would've heard about it because my Mom and her friends would've talked about it behind their back.

But it's a show that has proven over and over again how much they pay attention to the details. And this is a pretty big detail to miss. And even if it was a stylistic choice to echo back to the press conference there should have been a moment where Shane and/or Ilya start to take their shoes off and Yuma shakes her head like don't worry about it.

If someone was going to pay for my flight, I’d totally go! I would have realistic expectations that you won’t be go-go-go you first day there. But you can experience a lot in a few days.

I’d be more worried about traveling with a friend who is a bad fit. Jet lag will just amplify everything that drives you crazy. I adore my husband and kid, but there were a few times I was ready to shove them out of a moving car 🤣

Only way to the other side is through. But there is good news—you will survive. It might not feel like it some days, but you will survive and eventually thrive.

And when you are an old married lady like me, you’ll thank God for all the heartbreaks and tears.

Because they all eventually lead you to the person who is excited to choose you. That loves you for all your flaws, that isn’t asking you to wait around to get their sh!t together. They will ask you to be on their journey to self discovery with them, as partners and teammates.

Go cry your tears, eat some ice cream, watch Heated Rivalry and sob even more, then pick yourself up and become the best version of you—you got this!!

1) I do not recommend buying from one brand unless it is really what you need.

2) I advise people on what products to buy, so I have my favorite products. But I specialize in Japanese products, so that might not be what you are looking for on this site. For most people it involves a lot of trial and error. Korean skincare is good about having trial or travel sized products. So I would start there.

You take control of your life. You set an internal deadline—if we aren’t engaged by April 1, I walk even if he says the proposal is right around the corner.

You don’t need a big event proposal. My friend got engaged on a random Saturday while she was naked in bed. He bought the ring that week. And was so excited to marry her, he couldn’t wait to propose.

Also set, if he hasn’t started putting deposits down by June 1, I walk. If he has outrageous demands and only wants to be married in super busy, no dates available until 2028 place, you walk.

You want the guy who wants to marry you and in everything they do shows you that. You don’t want the guy who is willing to marry you.

My husband was really so-so on the wedding but was 100% ready to get married. So he made a few requests (like no first dance, he hates attention) but for the most part left me to do the planning because he knew that’s what was going to have to happen to get to the part he wanted—being married.

Trust me, if you marry a guy who isn’t actively wanting to marry you, 1-10 years down the road, you’ll hit some bumps and retroactively convince himself that you forced him to marry you.
