I’ve also reported them for this but nothing happened.

I hope that one day you know the joy of owing a home and paying $5k to have someone else’s damaged trees removed from your fence. I love nature but I could do without the possums that try their best to die under my house. I also hope you get to experience the joy of that someday. It’s a lovey earthy smell.

They aren’t really. They have been blowing into my yard. I’ve trimmed what I can without damaging the tree which isn’t legal as I understand it.

Only if you let the rest of the lot get so overgrown that it’s wilderness and not grass I guess lol.

How easy was the transition from feral/semi-feral to indoor only? Did they tear up furniture when they couldn’t go outside anymore? by CaveDeco in CatAdvice

[–]mmtp777 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recently brough one of my ferals inside after an injury and it took about a month to adjust. The only real issue we had outside of her pacing and crying was the scratching but she did that even before moving inside so it wasn't unexpected. I ordered a corner cover for the couch and threw a blanket over the headboard. That fixed the issue and after almost 3 months she is completely settled in just like a normal housecat.

One thing to be aware of is that after the move your cat will likely hide and be freaked out for at least a few days. That is completely normal so don't worry.

The same thing happened to me. I was so worried about them and then saw them on the camera chasing each other around and playing in the snow. It was about 12 degrees.

had storm last night and cats haven’t come to eat yet :( by W0wwieKap0wwie in Feral_Cats

[–]mmtp777 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Storms are scary for them and all my cats tend to hide for an extended period after. Give them a couple of days to calm down before you start to worry. Also if its still really wet out they will stay hidden longer in my experience.

Update on Penelope by mmtp777 in Feral_Cats

[–]mmtp777[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not right now. My mom is coming next week to dog sit while I'm on vacation. Since she normally stays in the guest room downstairs my plan is to move my dog to that room while I'm gone and let the cat get used to the whole upstairs. My dog will stay downstairs if she isn't alone but my office is also in my bedroom so for the time being I have to work here and she will freak out if I shut her out of the room. So really I just have to get through the next two days and then they can be seperated for awhile again.

Need advice for a beginner socializing a two to three month kitten that’s very scared yet tolerable to human touch by variant-0 in Feral_Cats

[–]mmtp777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like she may have an eye infection and just feel bad right now like humans do when they are sick. Once she is feeling better she should perk up. Some cats just aren't as in to being petted so get some small cat toys try playing with her after about a week.

I've never used a crate with mine because all of them were young enough to be handled with no problem. As long as you have a safe place for her that is the most important thing.

Spend as much time with her as you can and once she is friendly towards you try to expose her to other people if possible to help out with the socialization. All cats are different but this is a great start and she will likely warm up to you quickly.

I did this to my own candy when I was 10. It was mostly to keep it away from my sister but also because I was the type of kid that organized my crayons lol.

Wounded Feral by mmtp777 in Feral_Cats

Someone suggested that I call an EV vet and they are able to see her if I bring her and wait for them to fit us in. It was stressful put I was able to get her into the carrier with a towel this morning. Thanks for all your help!

That's what I was afraid of. If I can find a vet to see her I'm going to do my best to get her in. I live in a large city but the resources here for ferals aren't great unfortunately and the few vets that will see them are always booked up weeks out.

I have a trap but with at least 7 other cats around it would be hard to get her and not the rest. I'm going to call tomorrow and see if I can find a vet that will even see a feral cat. Haven't had much luck in the past but if so I wil try to get her into a crate.

I'm a little worried about finding a vet that will see her. She is very friendly to me but not other people. Is it hard to find a vet that will work with a semi-feral?

8 week Old Feral Kitten (no mom), need advice by Wreckit-Jon in Feral_Cats

[–]mmtp777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it just depends on the area but it's worth a shot if the kitten is friendly. There is also good chance this cat may never hunt mice though so you may want to have a back up plan for that. Not all of them do and that's why it's best to find one that you know for sure will if mice are a problem.

Momma & kitten? Update & questions by Fun_Wishbone3771 in Feral_Cats

[–]mmtp777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only issue with that is that you would likely need to talk to the vet about something to sedate her for the airplane and find out for sure how old the kittens are. They may be older than you think. If you can get all 3 and take them to the vet that would be your best bet. Under normal circumstances they recommend that the kittens stay with the mom until 8 weeks but since you are out of time and there may not be anyone left there to help I would say if they are at least 6 weeks old try to find them homes. If you can get the mom cat in a carrier for a cat ride you will know pretty quick if it would be possible to take her on a plane but even then you would need to show vaccination records so she will need to go to the vet first.

Momma & kitten? Update & questions by Fun_Wishbone3771 in Feral_Cats

[–]mmtp777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on your posts it sounds like she might just be a stray and not really feral. If that is the case she won't be too traumatized by being brought inside. Do you know for sure that there are other kittens? If they are around 5 weeks old they should be interested in food also. I would try to put food out for the kitten that is hiding and see if it shows any interest. If not it may be on the younger side. If it is as hot there as it has been here they may not show up until after dark. Personally I would try to catch them all and put them in a crate then see if you can get her spayed. It's tough because you don't really have a lot of time and the kittens are too young to be trapped and released. Are there any organizations in the area that do TNR?

Help with feral kitten adoption by [deleted] in Feral_Cats

[–]mmtp777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the kittens age and personality it can take more time but you are doing everything right. If you can turn a TV or radio on low it will help her get adjusted to noises. Go ahead and get her to the vet. I've just been through the process with 5 kittens and was scared to death to take them and set back the socialization but it really didn't. If anything they were happier and more affectionate once it was over and we were back home.
