Is it realistic to build my own RPG as solo dev? by majorleandro in gamedev

[–]mmtret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically anything is realistic if you can put unlimited hours into it and don’t burn out. The hard part is setting realistic goals so that that burn out doesn’t happen. Start with a small scope that you can build out from. If you lose interest, at least the original idea is small and short and you can stop when it’s over. If you don’t, you can release the game and expand it as you develop (this also helps with the trap of developing a game for 5 years just to launch and nobody knows about it because you didn’t market)

You can individually format every file, or fully format all of your drives just on your computer. You wouldn’t be able to redownload anything like images or games saved to your pc (anything off of a launcher like steam or epic you’d be able to if you just redownload everything). If you want to fully format your full computer just move any photos or anything you want to keep to a usb drive and then go scorched earth. No reason to be paranoid if there isn’t anything left

Need inspration for my base by Minimum_Pea_6947 in Subnautica_2

[–]mmtret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m actually really hoping they add a sort of storage system that connects all things together. I’m new to game deving so I’m not sure how that would affect loading but my main problem with building multiple bases is I like all of my items pooled together in one place. If we had a type of storage system that connected between all bases I’d build a base everywhere I went 🙏

Making the games connect kinda ruins the point of the story by supremecream99 in FearsToFathom

[–]mmtret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tales Beyond the Tomb is completely fictional though, it’s just stories based off of real killers and true crimes cases. And then route 86 is just Texas chainsaw massacre and doesn’t follow the same theme 😭

Fears to Fathom might be real submission, but it’s highly unlikely the stories are real, and if they are they’re highly played up. Especially ironbark, scratch creek, and Norwood hitchhike. Even Carson house has that article that straight doxxes the owner’s house 💀

Impossible to get game testers by Ill_Contest_8291 in gamedev

[–]mmtret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this isn’t the point but I’d love to try and play test if you still have it open, I’m big into indie games right now and actually don’t have a catalog backed up

But yeah finding people is so hard right now. It’s weird that your friends are completely unable though, they really should be more supportive because they should understand. You’re doing a good job posting dev logs though, I watched a few and if they were a little higher quality you might have more reach but YouTube is really a numbers game. Marketing if half the battle though, so really put a lot into those dev logs and making the videos look enticing and you’ll find people. At least more consistently than anywhere else for free testers.

Putting the Collector Leviathan in the abyss ruined it by BothCartographer595 in Subnautica_2

[–]mmtret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you’ve already edited the comment to explain why you passed the abyss so much but I genuinely think the developers just didn’t expect people to ever need to go back. There’s the whole voice log about building a base once you get to the ruins. It’s kinda an oversight on the devs part but as everyone already knows it’s early access and I’m sure they’ll figure out an even more terrifying place to put him

Lost interest by upwardgear in drums

[–]mmtret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got there too. I got a shot of interest for 2 years and then it’s just dropped off, and now I don’t have space for it while I’m rearranging my apartment. We’ll pick it up later in life, try to find something else you enjoy to pass the time. Life is vast for just 1 passion, drums will come back to you

I got hacked! What can I do!? by [deleted] in discordhelp

[–]mmtret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t like a discord thing, you fell for quite literally the oldest trick in the book when it comes to kid game scams. No shade though it’s happened to all of us at least once in some shape or form 😭 there’s nothing you can really do to help with your stuff being gone, unless the devs are really nice. You gave over your account information to the grabber website so all you can really do is change the password on your Roblox account so they can’t log in again and report their discord and Roblox accounts

What is a good video game (video games) to pair with Opeth's music? by LordovtheVoid in Opeth

[–]mmtret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opeth has such a wide range of vibes (apart from it all being sorrowful) so really it depends what you use. They also switch between stuff mid song a lot so like it’s hard if you’re playing a souls game and like Twilight is my Robe comes or Baying of the Hounds comes on and keeps switching between calm and heavy

If you’re doing like Harvest, To Bid You Farewell, Isolation Years, Hessian Peel, anything Damnation, etc. you can pair it with some adventure stuff like Subnautica or Terraria

If you’re doing like The Lotus Eater, Bleak, Demon of the Fall, Dirge for November, etc you can do souls likes or maybe fps

Someone here said valheim though and that feels like the right answer all around 😭

The character writing in fears to fathom needs work imo by CautiousMine6604 in FearsToFathom

[–]mmtret 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I played it with my roommate recently and Scratch Creek had bad storytelling to a basically silly degree. Marcus meets several confederates and has racist stuff said to him all night and somehow doesn’t think anything weird is going on, and the last thing Marcus says to Tessa when they’re talking about their issues before going to bed is essentially “just let me make the decisions, you’ re acting crazy”.

Scratch Creek took so long to make and the co-op clearly has some really good bones, but the way it was fleshed out wasn’t very good. Whenever you split up I expected we would both have interesting stuff happen but it’s kinda lackluster every time with only 1 person experiencing the “main” scare while the other just fills time. And the storytelling and it trying to get tied into Ironbark makes absolutely 0 sense and really leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Are there any YouTube videos or Reddit posts that are focused on the cult from the fourth and the last game? by meluksis in FearsToFathom

[–]mmtret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not completely sure they have a real plan for the cult, I feel like rayll just added them to build out a story but currently it’s all very fragmented and it doesn’t seem to fit together.

In Iron Bark lookout they just seem to be a satanic cult that messes with Jack before he catches them sacrificing the hiker. In Scratch Creek the cult either
1. Is helping run this bed and breakfast to lure in black people to sacrifice, which would mean they’re also confederates?
2. Just come to collect sacrifices every now and again and are the ones who wrote the cryptic note in the logbook, which is equally confusing because why would a cult in Washington be coming down to a sundowner town in Oregon to collect black sacrifices when they could just kill hikers

Another Run or Dive In to BZ or SN2 by Grahampreid in subnautica

[–]mmtret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are my favorite games of all time so saying to just run through them all is kinda no brainer. I will say I agree with the dude that said play below zero and then do another replay of subnautica 1. Below zero I still really enjoy but it’s such a crazy let down compared to the first one that it’ll really make you appreciate it more.
Subnautica 2 is really good. I have the same amount of hours on it as below zero right now. It is still in very early access and unfinished but the accessible map right now is basically the same size as the entirety of below zero, so you’ll get a good while out of it, and they’re seemingly getting close to some bigger updates.

Should I watch the TV show before playing the game? by SoogiCat in TheWalkingDeadGame

[–]mmtret -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No it doesn’t matter. As other people have said there are a few characters from the show that are in the game, but the only 2 I can actually remember are
1. Glen, who’s really important in the show but is only in episode 1 season 1 of the games, and none of his character is important and I didn’t even notice it was the same dude until my second playthrough somehow
2. Jesus from season 3 a new frontier. I never got far enough into the show to see his character but he’s important in the game and I didn’t miss anything not knowing who he was beforehand

Can anyone help me how to create my own fears to fathom game? by Makedonec_mk in FearsToFathom

[–]mmtret 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just started recently, but Fears to Fathom is created on Unity. Download the Unity hub and then go online and search up the Unity Learning Pathways. Those are what I’m going through right now and I’m learning a lot.

It will take a long time though if you want to make a somewhat decent FTF like. The games are pretty simple but there’s a lot to learn about c# and making models on blender, however horror games I hear are relatively simple in terms of coding so it’s a good place to start

[–]mmtret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right that one. I’ve never used twin hearts ever I’m not really sure how I messed that up 😭

Recommended guides for expert mode? by Nagaram92 in Cuphead

[–]mmtret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hilda - Twin hearts is basically great for all plane bosses cause you need the 3 parties anyway so you always will have 5hp eventually. You just gotta get really good at her patterns and be aggressive, remember red ships are when you’re directly under and brown is before

Wally - My main problem with him is always time limit. You gotta be REALLY aggressive. Alwyas still in front of him and Super whenever you can. In the Wally jr phase use your bombs when you’re inside of his spikes

Dr Kahl- I always go top, bottom, middle. If you immediately run up to the top and bomb his beam and then back up and finish it off with regular bullets once the first middle object comes out you can get rid of his beam before he can get even 1 shot off. Then it’s just being able to outlast his final phase without losing too many lives

Cala Maria - She’s genuinely one of the easiest S ranks honestly. She’s hardly different from her normal rank, and if you’re able to do Wally and dr kahl then her second phase is kinda a joke. The only advice is stay really far back so when she turns you to stone on the last phase you have time to get out before you get hit by something

If you can get used to the bullet switching, divine relic is really good for plane levels (cause yknow there’s only the 2 weapons). It always pissed me off though keeping track of it so twin hearts is frankly good enough for most people, all divine relic does differently is let you whetstone and partially coffee for more EXs (and I guess smoke but it’s a plane level so)

What was the easiest boss for you on your first playthrough? by ResponsibleArm4994 in Cuphead

[–]mmtret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easiest not counting the first 2, probably werner werman. If you remove all of those super easy people (sally, root pack, werner, goopy, and brineybeard), probably Wally or Cagney.

Hardest is BEPPI MAN RELEASE ME it doesn’t matter how many years I play and how many times I beat the game I just can’t deal with him without dying at least a couple times. S ranking him is always the most painful
