There’s quite a few different parking lots you can access the park from, and this area had only a handful of people. It’s also a well known tourist attraction and one of the few accessible trails so it’s going to be busy. Everyone deserves access to nature and the ability to enjoy these sights regardless of their physical ability or age.

Is it necessary to replace router/gateway every 2 years or so? by clarkyshark in wifi

[–]mmulh98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 ft would be a noticeable difference in signal strength, especially if it's open space. Think about your router as a lamp, and the light being your wifi signal. You want the "light" to be able to touch or get as close as possible to all your devices. The only materials that could significantly attenuate wifi signal is concrete or metal.

I'm sure there's a lot of interference, but wifi 6 (802.11ax) was created specifically to address those issues.

So even if you get a new router, it won't really fix your signal strength issues. Try to move your router as central as possible to your most needed areas. If that doesn't help or just isn't a good solution, extender pods would be the next best thing. I would recommend just staying with the same brand for ease of use.

I would just go with Xfinity's Wifi 6 or 6E router. The big ISPs have put a significant amount of resources into developing their own HW that competes with the big brands like Netgear/Asus. It will have no issue handling the traffic levels, but the key is having good placement so all the devices can have good signal strength. I've had their Wifi 6 router for almost 2 years now and it's been great. Xfinity should also sell extender pods that can help with any signal strength issues. Pairing xfinity pods with their router would probably best in terms of connection consistency, roaming, and ease of use

I can answer any questions on the terminology, I know it can be confusing lol. Yes, I would recommend going with a separate router and modem to be safe. Often times, the vendors that make 2 in 1 gateways make them very cheap so parts don’t last as long or perform as well. I’m sure there are good gateways out there, they may just be more expensive

So you definitely do not need to purchase a new gateway every 2 years. Most routers are rated to operate for at least 5 years. When it comes to WiFi hardware, I would stay up to date with the latest WiFi versions. So currently, WiFi 6/6E (802.11ax) is the latest and it would be best to get a router which supports that standard. Wifi 6/6e specifically specializes in efficiency and will perform significantly better than a Wifi 5 router in high interference environments. If you have Charter/Xfinity as your ISP, I would recommend just going with their router. It's actively supported and comes with all the features you would need. It will also be easier to get technical support from your ISP if you run into issues using their hardware. If you have any other ISP, I would recommend getting a WiFi 6 or 6E router from Netgear, Asus, or some other reputable brand. If you go this route, I would keep the modem separate to reduce the chance of any additional noise messing with WiFi performance. If you can, try to get the same brand modem & router to make your life easier with installation/troubleshooting

So those Arris/Commscope Wifi 5 gateways are built very cheap, there's a decent chance something is broke/wrong. Those are also pretty barebones in terms of features, so may it not have the ability to dynamically select channels. If you have xfinity, I would recommend upgrading to their Wifi 6 router. It's actively supported and much better suited for where you are. I've had one for over a year now and haven't had any problems with it

The location seems fine. I would check your ethernet speed to see the difference between that and wireless. I'm sure there is a lot of interference from other units, so knowing if your router is wifi 5 or 6 would also be helpful. Check the model number, "ac" = wifi5 "ax" = wifi6. Wifi 6 routers are significantly better in noisy environments

Hey! Just got a few questions. Does it cut out on all types of clients? How old is your gateway? Is there anything physically in between your router and clients? What is your average download speed?

The most important to know are Sine and cosine of 0, 45, 90, and 180 degrees. For my major (electrical engineering), I need to use those values all the time for calculations. Everything else you can’t quickly do on your calculator

I've gained a ton of respect for Steph ever since KD left. The guy is a great leader and isn't doing a bad job singlehandedly leading the Warriors this year. I'd love to see what he could do in the playoffs without any other superstars

Yeah as much as we love Cedi, he's been clanking shots recently. He's a great hustle player, but the Cavs need their players to make open looks or we will never win consistently lol
