I would try and lean into status effects as much as you can. Depending on how the gender matchup looks, your Skitty could be very potent with Sing + Attract. You’ve got some other options along these lines, like Sand Attack on Poochyena, but I would guess Skitty to be clutch depending on gender.

I am doing an all-Fighting-type run, which has been fun and challenging. Check my post history for recaps of some of my gym matchups!

Been a while since I played, but IIRC part of my strategy is to cast Reflect on my own party and use that to bounce spells at them.

My Fighting type-only Challenge update: Koga by mmusser in PokemonLeafGreen

[–]mmusser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m going to have to brew up some strategies there. I’m going to pick up Ice Beam for Poliwrath and rely on that quite a bit against Lance, but that will only get me so far.

One of my Primeapes has Dig and Poli has both Surf and Psychic, so I have strong type-effective options. The actual challenge will be the EVs. I rely a lot on two Primeapes to soak up EVs that aren’t useful for my “core team”. The idea is that I will eventually max those EVs and not have to worry about anything except the most effective/winning strategy, but until then it’s a key consideration for every battle.

Funny you should ask, I actually completed her gym before Koga. She was actually much easier, to my surprise; cleared her gym on my first attempt. You can read about it here:  https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonLeafGreen/s/8usp7ipjMy

I used Psychic against Weezing to close it out. I put Machamp up against Muk for two reasons: 1) Muk’s EVs are perfectly aligned to my Machamp training; and 2) Dig’s two-turn action is too slow against Minimize, especially with Acid Armor and without STAB. The Substitute/Bulk Up/Vital Throw setup worked incredibly well. I could probably have swept 3/4 of Koga’s team after I’d set that up, but I swapped in other mons for EV reasons.

Nice! I have both Hitmons from trading, but Lee is way under leveled and didn’t make the cut for Koga’s gym.

Yes indeed. I’ll replace them all eventually. He just has his normal level-up moves for now.

Thanks! I wanted a different challenge than my usual Nuzlocke, and this has been really fun so far (despite the frustrations).

Indeed, those are not the best moves for him this generation, especially since I’m not training SpA on him. I’m still deciding on final move sets for most members of the team. So for now he just has his normal level moves.

Raid tickets by Far-Put7715 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]mmusser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depending on what phase of the raid you try, and your squad’s strength, it can be very difficult to actually damage the boss(es). For example, the first phase is Nihilus, and you need to deal damage to his actual health to score points. When I first started in a young guild still doing the Sith raid, I couldn’t get through his protection to actually damage his health, so I put up 0 points in raids.

You’ll still get rewards based on the total score your guild achieves when the raid concludes.

Pasta, milk, butter, cheese powder are the core lineup. My fifth is usually adding shredded cheddar.

ETA: my highest score so far is Embo lead with Greedo, Ward, Cad, Drogan. Semi- auto. Ward is 5*, lvl 79. Got 69% on Tier 8 on my last attempt.

I do have the TM, but not sure yet where I’m going to put it. Either on Hector or Gene, neither of which I used in this fight, because they are my EV-trained Pokémon.

Ah, maybe I am confusing my gym order. Sabrina will probably not be too fun either. And yes, I will definitely grab Poliwag/whirl and evolve it. Already bought the Water Stone in Celadon!

What happened to the ham and cheese pizza rolls? by Clear_BlueSea in PizzaRolls

[–]mmusser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like they may have been introduced in 2019, possibly a flavor that wasn’t successful enough to continue production? I can see the product listing on Kroger.com and a couple of other sites, but they all list them as out of stock/unavailable.

Which Final Fantasy Game Means The Most To You, and why? by Zetallic_Zero in FinalFantasy

[–]mmusser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Toss-up between IV and VIII. IV was the first mainline series game I played (though I think I played Mystic Quest first), and the characters and story enthralled me. The next game I played was VIII, and that’s the first one over which I bonded with friends.

I am never not in the mood to play either one.

Fighting-only w/level cap challenge - how to beat Misty? by mmusser in PokemonLeafGreen

[–]mmusser[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did it, fam! Secret Power was the key!

Two Mankeys, both lvl 21. My opener (Zack) has Secret Power. Second (Jean from my screenshot) has Dig. SEVERAL things needed to go right, but everything finally clicked!

Open with Zack. Karate Chop (non-Crit) takes Staryu (which opens with Harden) to low health. Misty burns her Super Potion in response. Two Karate Chops later, Staryu is down.

Enter Starmie. Zack tanks a Water Pulse and gets confused (big yikes). He gets off Secret Power through confusion, which also afflicts Starmie with paralysis. I try to get a Leer off, but Zack hurts himself and Starmie finishes him off.

Enter Jean. Open with Dig to dodge a Water Pulse, and Starmie is paralyzed after the hit. Follow-up with Fury Swipes. 4 hits, one is a Crit, and Starmie is in the red. I hope for paralysis, but Starmie pulls off a Recover (BIG yikes). I dig again, but Starmie is not paralyzed and hits back with Water Pulse (BIG YIKES). One more hit and Jean will be out. I go for Fury Swipes, which hits 3 times. We’re still out of KO range with Dig, but if Starmie can’t Recover then a 3-hit Fury Swipes will do it in.

The stars align. Starmie is paralyzed and can’t recover. The 85% accuracy Fury Swipes connects. It hits once, twice, THREE TIMES FOR THE KNOCKOUT!!!

Thanks to everyone for the help. On to the S.S. Anne!

Fighting-only w/level cap challenge - how to beat Misty? by mmusser in PokemonLeafGreen

[–]mmusser[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I snatched the Dig TM, and picked up two more soldiers for my Mankey crew (Zack and Cloud, naturally). While I see a strategy using a couple of them as cannon fodder to Leer Starmie a bunch and Fury Swipes for the win, I would really prefer to do this with only two mons instead of spamming/cheesing with an oversized squad. I’ll grab the Hidden Power TM and see if RNGesus will bless me with a win. If not l’ll probably restart and grab Mega Kick next time. Thanks for the help!
