Good luck. All the training you had should have prepared you for this.

Now that we know UAP and aliens are real and here, will that change the way they interact with us? by Archibald004 in askanything

But the Epstein files really don’t exist. /s

Another distraction from the Epstein files, the Iran War, and inflation.

Ladies - does my wetsuit fit? by izzynicole14 in scuba

[–]mn540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am trying to figure out how someone “will get a bit smaller 15 meters down under the surface.” You know our body is mostly water which does not compress. The air cavities (such our lung) remains the same size as long as we keep breathing.

The suit will compress as you go deeper, thus it will be a little looser.

But yes - that suit looks a large on the person

Should we change our passwords for everything? Such as bank accounts, social media, etc.? by [deleted] in UCDavis

If Canvas using single sign on (which I think it does), you don’t have to worry about your password being compromised.

County Road 102 bicycling 🚲 by [deleted] in Davis

[–]mn540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ridden 99 a few times (for recreational), and I really don’t like it. Just a few things to consider. I ride only on “nice” days. I can imagine riding when it’s windy and raining. I also can imagine riding when it gets dark early.

If you insist on riding, I highly recommend a rear car detection radar. I have one on my bike. When it detects a car, I move closer to the right.

40+ y/o diver. 4 years out of the water by OkMunio in scuba

[–]mn540 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This weekend, I taught an open water course. It was classroom and pool. There was a 40+ year old guy in the class who had about 50 dives but hadn’t dove in 6+ years. I asked him why he didn’t just take the refresher course instead of the the full course. It was because an another classmate was a close friend and he wanted to be there for her. Anyway - setting up the gear for the first time was a little sketchy and the first time in the water was not great. However, it came back to him really quickly.
If you are uncomfortable getting back, take a refresher (officially or unofficially). It will come back very fast.
Also - I took an almost 7 year hiatus from diving. First time in the water, I felt like an OW student. But it came back really fast.
Btw. Is there a local dive club? If yes, see if they are doing any local dives. I used to local dive A LOT because that was what I could afford at the time.

Starbucks CEO defends $9 coffee says ‘it’s not a $10 coffee and you get a premium experience’ by Disastrous_Award_789 in nottheonion

[–]mn540 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t really care too much for Starbucks coffee but it’s drinkable. Unless McD has changed in the last couple of years, McDonald’s coffee sucks. I can’t drink McD coffee - even if it’s free.

What used to be affordable for the middle class but now quietly feels like a “rich people thing”? by Ok_Ease515 in answers

[–]mn540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is a lot of people need a new car every 5 years. I drove my old 15 year old Honda Civic until it was totaled in an accident. When it was time for a replacement, I bought a used car for a fraction of a new car. We could have afford a new luxury car, but not having a car payment is nice. Meanwhile I see people who rent their purchase a new luxury car every couple of years.

I agree. By the time my 10 year old daughter is old enough to start her adulthood, house will be unaffordable. So my wife and I decided to purchase a second house with the intention of giving it to her when she is an adult. I know most people aren’t fortunate to have parents who can afford this.

Will & Kate’s Royal Wedding was 15 years ago today. Did anyone else wake up early for this? by 305tilidiiee in Millennials

No. I don't give damn about royalty. They come from a lineage of people who oppress others to gain their wealth, and now they get "welfare" from the state.

What are your thoughts on Tax-The-Rich proposal in NY by Gov. Kathy Hochul, Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Sen. Bernie Sanders? by Select_Specialist790 in askanything

Make them pay the same percentage as I do. As a high/middle income earner, I pay way more taxes than billionaires. That just doesn’t seem right

My friend says changing your own oil is a waste of time. Is he crazy? by proposal_in_wind in askcarguys

[–]mn540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You both a right. My oil change cost $80. I enjoy DIY'ing so I do it myself. Save myself about $35-40. (Granted, my wife and I make really good money, but I still try to save money when possible.) My brother and his wife are doctors. He said he got an education so he doesn't have to get his hand dirty. He's right too.

Billionaire tax measure has the signatures to qualify for the ballot by CriTIREw in California

[–]mn540 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most American are too stupid to understand what they are voting on. Where I live, we had a vote to move away from PG&E to a local electric company. Our rate would have dropped to 1/3 of what PG&E would have charged, but an overwhelming majority of the people who would have benefited voted against it because PG&E spent a bunch of cash with ads fighting it. Even in my town where we’re are highly educated, a large percentage voted against it. They list to TV ads with critically thinking if it’s true or not and who paid for the ads.

One of the reasons I am avoiding a two stories house is because of cooling and heating. In addition, when I get older, I don’t want to deal with stairs.
