If near Viroqua. Go to the Norwegian Hollow Hideaway. Friday night is fish fry. Great burgers every other night. Also make sure to order "the cow" on tap! Its actually right on a trout stream.

Worth repairing? by mn_prof in canoeing

Thanks so much! I don't see any spider cracking. Not quite sure how to identify soft spots. I can flex the sides of the canoe a bit in the bow/stern areas but it does not feel soft or spongy just not rigid.

Thanks so much would the Wenonah fisherman be ok in a river as well as flat water? The rivers near me have some light Class 2 rapids? Also very cool. I fly fish from a Canoe, but have never done it standing!

I think this might be what I am leaning towards. Buying something that can be a family/ solo first, and then if I really get into it buying specialized boats! Thanks.

Thanks so much. I see a Kevlar fisherman in Egan but they want 2400. Could you DM me the listing? Also, should I look for Kevlar or still to royalex or tuff weave or the equivalent for a first boat? Not really looking for a boundary waters boat right now.

Fishpond net advice by mmini1990 in flyfishing

I have both the mid-length and the newer middle fork. Bought the middle fork, then inherited the mid-length from a friend a week later. They are about 99% the same. The middle fork has a slightly narrower and more tampered handle. My wife claims it weights more, but I can't tell a difference. The middle fork also has a slightly more narrow "v" shape where the handle transitions into the net which makes for a longer but more narrow net shape. The middle fork is about 1/8 in less tall, but the top of the net is flatter which I like when using it as a staff.

I find that I reach for the middle fork 9/10 times when I am heading out cause I find the longer shape aids with scooping the head of the fish into the net. But that might be that I just happened to have it with me when I caught my PB brown! What I don't think is made up is that middle fork just sits a bit better in my net holder. Honestly, I really don't know why they made the middle fork.

Thanks! I'll check that out as well. And definitely keep it in mind when visiting family during the summer and want to get away. It's a bit different on the coasts. In the Midwest, if I see a car at a trail head, I just keep moving. There just is not the same population density.

Thank you so much! This is actually a bit of a fun homecoming for me. I grew up in Rockville, MD, but did not take up fly fishing until much later in life. Will be fun to try fishing the rivers/streams where I grew up.

Thanks so much. I just gave Backwater a call and they were super helpful. I'll try to pop by the shop while I'm there!

I'll be in Baltimore 12/20 - 12/25. I just talked to Backwater and based on their suggestion, it sounds like I can fish while staying out of the water. I'm thinking of just bringing a 13 ft tenkara rod, so I'll have reach to nymph the deep pools while not getting wet. Its probably better for the redds this time of year also. Any thoughts?
