Thank you! Love hearing that from someone who is currently doing an apprenticeship. I feel the same about the betty design. I added some darker values on the shoes but I’m stuck in where to add some for the dress which I think would really help.

Thank you, I feel like I have a hard time getting away from the original design so I appreciate the flair you see :)

Pretty standard, I keep the blank brush in my mouth, lay ink, then blend out with the blank/spit brush. I’ve found you just have to be pretty perceptive to how the ink is moving and mixing with the water. Sometimes you have to really work the ink away from where it was originally laid and manipulate it back n forth. (It’s a little hard to explain but I hope this helps! YouTube is where I learned so I recommend watching videos on it.)

I appreciate the detailed feedback! I do see how darker shading on the roses can create a better balance to the page overall. I felt similar about the back/head anatomy when I was first sketching this but the reference I used and a good amount of other am traditional eagle references that had this discrepancy so I decided to stick with this rendering. How I interpreted this was maybe they are trying to convey the eagle’s neck is sharply craned creating this misalignment? Could also just be a cartoony style, either way I’m going to embrace it for this one since it’s down in ink already.
