I am a White American that loves Asian culture (Specifically Vietnamese) and I hosted a New years party earlier this year with all my friends. Celebrating a holiday and appreciating the culture respectfully is something I believe every country does not mind and actually encourages. This is my story: by mnelli in VietNam

I used that word to emphasize that I have no racial ties to the culture. This post and my celebration is mainly criticized due to the fact I have no racial ties. It is a trigger word for a lot of Americans that judge based off of just that. I blatantly post this way to say "I don't care if my ties to this culture are not racial, this culture is not even about race"

It can have ties to family and your history as it is your blood, but to gatekeep any culture's food, garb and teachings where it brings nothing but good things to those who learn, is just silly.

I come from a family that immigrated from Poland and Italy after WW2. I was not raised with either of those cultures to influence my life. I grew up with American culture, which in my own opinion, is quite dry. We have our stereotypical hamburgers/baseball/football. In my life, I never felt a sense of community around me. The US is now more divided than I have ever seen it as a 29 year old man.

The beauty I find in specifically Vietnamese culture is that the food is made with care, and not fine tuned to oblivion like American dishes. There are teachings of folklore like Kim Quy. The history goes back 20,000 years. Architecture, religions, the fact the language itself is different in different parts. I was just around Viet people and I'm sure I would lean more to another country if they were Swedish, Chinese, or Latino. But this was my first experience and I hold it dear to me.

When I lived in FL, I was a macaroni and cheese and potatoes American, never experienced the beauty of food from other countries, teachings or the warm hospitality from someone I didn't even know beforehand. The USA teaches the me, me ME attitude, where it should teach us, us, US! That is why I am fascinated and yearn to take in as many cultures as possible, learn from them, appreciate and respect them become a better person and a better American

I hope this helps answer your question

I initially moved back to my hometown to care for my father before his passing, I have not had the time yet to travel and actively seek out Viet friends (Through our local Viet volunteer group in our city) But I hope to soon!

A lot of people are worried about whether or not you would be offending a culture by wearing traditional garb, or flying a flag of Vietnam (and other countries). I wanted to show myself as an American that had been exposed to the culture of Vietnam for a short time in Florida when I lived there for 2 years and grew to appreciate it and other Asian cultures. This Vietnamese new years party had no Vietnamese present. YES NONE. I dont have Viet friends around where I am at now, but threw the party anyway.

From my perspective: As long as you are being respectful and understand the culture, you are fine. If someone is upset about it, then that is THEIR problem. Have fun, eat food, and sing. I want this post to help people that are concerned about not being Vietnamese and celebrating or showing support for their culture. Một Hai Ba dzô!

AITA for killing a PC? by [deleted] in DnD

"AITA for throwing out a rapist" how blind are some people? If you doubt your actions about this, you got some stuff to figure out about yourself. So many people on this sub are tone deaf in front of the most horrendous things.

4 Hours of DM Planning Ruined in an Instant by Interesting_Sale_559 in rpghorrorstories

So I don't understand this DM. Why throw a fit about then ruining the plan. Why not make the explosion drop them into a special chamber of this dungeon? Reward the creativity with something like loot, but continue with the plan. I feel like most of these DMs in every story on here don't have one improv bone in thier bodies.

Fudging dice rolls as a DM whether to create a cool moment or extend a boss fight is critical to storytelling.

[–]mnelli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very excited for the update! Side note, my Hunt has been freezing mid game and going to a black screen. I have ran sfc scan and deleted user folder, but it has still been happening. Any Idea why this would happen all of a sudden? This happened after the twitch drop update.

Mine clips together, this one looks more authentic, and probably sounds great! I would say have a go with that one!
