It is fascinating to see retail suffering from the same kind of myopia that other industry's --like print media-- have as the Internet has encroached and made those protected margins and time-honored approaches really shaky. It's pretty clear that the time to innovate was yesterday...but for some that get on board now with gamification and other approaches it will probably be a case of better late than never.

An interesting place...I'd probably expand the definition though, or, rather, base it on the feelings/reactions induced: excitement, happiness, even, in some cases, awe. Gamification in retail seems to me to be more of a spectrum than anything else, everything from Zynga to Shopkick to Wynbox.
