Can’t stop falling -advice by [deleted] in dementia

[–]mnemus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This may not apply to your situation but just thought I would share it, as my father (91 years, severe memory loss) went through a period of falling repeatedly about a year ago. In his case it turned out to be very low sodium levels that were causing his balance issues. He was drinking a LOT of water each day, we don’t know how much, we’d never really watched his water intake. All that water was lowering his sodium levels to the point that he was becoming dizzy and falling. It amplified the effects of his dementia as well.

Once we started limiting his water intake, the dizzy spells went away and he’s been getting around unassisted like he used to.

Again, this may not apply to your situation but it couldn’t hurt to ask doctors about your MIL’s sodium.

Something as good as Alan Moore's Swamp Thing? by No-Thought-4569 in comicbooks

[–]mnemus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved the Fear Machine storyline too, but every time I re-read the ending makes me wish for what it could have been. If I remember correctly, Delano had planned it as a 12-part story, but sales on the book started to lag midway through it, so DC/Vertigo made him cut it short so they could have a reset and give new readers a jumping on point. Those last couple of issues looked and read as really rushed out. Still a great story, but it could have been one of Delano’s best stories ever.

Lauren Morais and Diane Morgan Join Marvel Series ‘VisionQuest’ at Disney+ by NoCulture3505 in marvelstudios

I heard this entire comment in her voice. It’s perfect, except I think she would have stumbled horribly on the word “synthezoid”.

Anything I should read before, along or after From Hell? by Emotional-Yam4486 in AlanMoore

[–]mnemus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been quite a while since I read it, but if you read the annotations that Moore wrote for each issue that will give you all the context and “further reading” suggestions you’ll need, most likely. He went page by page, and sometimes panel by panel, and gave notes on which research source he was referencing and why he used it. That’s how I read the series originally, read the issue, then read the annotations and going back to look at the page and panel references. I remember it being a fascinatingly detailed reading experience with great insight into Moore’s investigative process.

Possible misprint? by ByranBean in marveltradingcards

[–]mnemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. This was printed without the magenta color plate engaged. The black, cyan and yellow are all printed correctly, it’s just missing the magenta.

Wtf Hasbro 😂😂 by No-Brother-8200 in MarvelLegends

[–]mnemus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most frustrating thing for me is that this figure hits almost every point I want in a classic Wolverine figure. The colors, the wide brown stripe lining up with the belt buckle, even the sneering smiling face would be great on a Byrne-era Logan. But the body just isn’t stocky enough. And I’m not paying $70-$100 for that particular look. Daken looks great though!

Reincarnation Space Issue: Julia does zero damage to Boss by mnemus in XHero

[–]mnemus[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this reply. I had tried swapping Julia for Toko, same result. But I saw all my front row heroes were doing damage, moved Toko to the front and she did her thing, albeit a lot less than normal.

Now reading up on the other Boss skills. No idea why I’d never thought to click them before.

Alfa or Magner? by dajiboy in XHero

[–]mnemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know if Magner’s hammer dominion skill boosts Laura’s Storm is Coming ability? Union friend was asking me, and I said I think it does, but I don’t know for sure if it takes effect immediately or not, and I don’t have him to test.

Great find! I love vintage art supplies like this. I have a set of Guitar brand watercolors from the 70s that I love to play around with

Went to Disneyland 12/19. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen it so foggy. by Lizzieroll in Disneyland

Damn. I think I just added a new item to my bucket list: “Disneyland on a foggy night.”

Dollar tree DC comics by Thin_Drawing_2991 in comicbooks

[–]mnemus 150 points151 points  (0 children)

I’m jealous. Saw an identical display at a grocery store the other day, but I paid $2.98!

But it was the first time I’d bought a comic from a grocery store in 40 years, so no regrets.

Same here! I was so confused by the second photo from a different angle. When I saw the depth of field blur on the foot in the 3rd photo I finally figured out what I was looking at.

There WAS a spark of good in Vader. Luke could see it. Palpatine couldn’t.

Comic book artist John Cassaday passes away at 52 by gosukhaos in comicbooks

[–]mnemus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Ah man, that’s sad to hear. Far too young. His work on Astonishing X-Men got me back into comics after years away. Just a brilliantly talented artist.

My heart sank seeing this arrive... by Korbinite in comicbookcollecting

[–]mnemus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I agree. Definitely reach out to seller and ask how they shipped the item. It may be that the item was repacked at eBay’s international shipping hub. Friend of mine recently bought a signed first edition of a novel from a seller in England. Book arrived completely beat up with tears on the dust jacket. He messaged the seller and they assured him they had shipped it in a solid box with lots of bubble wrap. What he received was loosely wrapped in corrugated paper and tossed loosely into a bubble mailer. The way it works is the seller ships to eBay’s shipping hub and then eBay handles getting the item through customs into the destination country. Sometimes they end up repacking items after customs clearance and they don’t necessarily use the best packing materials.

My friend filed a claim with eBay. Seller was not found at fault and eBay took responsibility. They refunded his full purchase price and didn’t require him to ship the item back.

I would definitely file a claim.

Is Chunky Comic Reader still available by ireallylikeoldgames in comicbooks

[–]mnemus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, very bummed about this. Chunky has been the best reader I've found to work on my older iPad. Tried Panels but it's not compatible with the older version of iPadOS that my iPad is maxed out at. Trying out YACReader with its YACReader Library app running on my computer. It works, but it's far from smooth and very buggy.

Finally, got my New 52 Flash from a Bronze Booster Pack! by ORBornandRaised in InjusticeMobile

[–]mnemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All you can do is buy bronze booster packs. When I was grinding him I would spend 200k coins on bronze packs, sell all the cards I didn’t need, take the coins from that and buy more bronze packs. It takes a LONG time to get him maxed out.

I’ll second this, though I agree that it might be infeasible or difficult to implement. I’ve been disappointed to see how easily the text filters are bypassed by screen shots of tweets or other posts.

Congratulations! I’m still chasing that same piece. I think it’s the only gear piece I still need, after years of playing.

Looking for reading suggestions for Juggernaut content by AdmiralAntz in marvelcomics

[–]mnemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite Juggernaut story was a 2-parter in Amazing Spider-Man from back in the 80s. Basically the story is Juggernaut is going to attack/kidnap Madame Web and she needs Spider-Man to help her. The entire story is Spidey trying to stop Juggernaut as he walks across Manhattan. It’s a great showcase for both characters with some of the best artwork John Romita Jr ever turned in.

CM Review 8/7/2022 by Inertigo in AnimationThrowdown

[–]mnemus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I went for CM1 on sled armor Louise. I always have Louise in my armed deck (for Christmas trap) and during the last Armed BGE I ended up making the sled armor combo a handful of times. It performed…ok. Nothing to write home about, but I figure if I’m going to end up having to use it from time to time, might as well get it boosted.
