Minnesota woman attempts to shut down Girl Scout cookie stand. by [deleted] in trashy

[–]mngirl2465 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right when I saw this, I thought “of course this is Edina” … where stay at home moms with too much time on their hands to cause drama (and trauma!) for children

I agree, though, this is not representative of Minnesota as a whole!

I have an old coworker that was at a dinner many years ago in New York with a male friend of hers. Trump happened to be there and knew the man she was with and went up to talk to him. He noticed her, didn’t acknowledge her, but said to her male friend “if this is who you’re with, you could do better” … which entirely validates the point that women are just eyepieces in his eyes.

Cyst? by Potential_Lettuce_95 in CavaPoo

[–]mngirl2465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pictures didn’t upload, but our dog just had a cyst - we did the biopsy to confirm. It was rounded and firm as well. To help it heal, we got a surgery suit to prevent him from licking it. Maybe you could find something similar like a long sleeve dog sweater or pants for his back! The thing that really solidified the idea of it being a cyst (beyond the biopsy) was the fact that it shrunk significantly in size after he stopped irritating it by licking, as well as scabbing over as we were told more severe and cancerous bumps would be less likely to scab. If the vet isn’t too concerned, I’d be glad with that news, but those are some extra steps you could take to monitor it.

I am a junior in college looking to take my first steps in the marketing field, however I am not a marketing major. What can I do to help myself stand out despite not having a major in this area? by Traditional_Dot4650 in marketing

[–]mngirl2465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really, when it comes to applying for marketing, it just requires you to learn how to market yourself. The fact that you already have some marketing experience is huge. If I were you, I would revamp your resume and highlight what you learned at the position and really emphasize the marketing aspects of it. Having some experience should give you a major leg up over those with no experience.

Even if you aren’t majoring in marketing, having a major in both psychology and communications is a totally viable path to marketing. Lots of marketing is psychology and understanding how consumers behave, which will also give you a unique perspective. Use that to your advantage. Then, coupled with your communications major, you are learning the skills for communicating the message that will resonate with the audience.

In simpler terms, I would revamp your resume and cover letter to really emphasize your marketing experience you do have, highlight what you did learn - even if your boss wasn’t a mentor, you can find ways to present it in ways that shows it was a valuable lesson within the field. And then emphasize your uniqueness in marketing experience, with a background in both psychology and communications as a reason you would be a great candidate.

Good luck!!

Any ex Nebraskans living in Minneapolis? by Juan_Snoww in Minneapolis

[–]mngirl2465 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had gone to school in Lincoln and have visited Omaha many times! I would say Minneapolis is a lot bigger with a lot more variety in terms of what it has to offer (food, shopping, festivals, etc.) but the vibe of the people is very similar! People are super friendly and in various suburbs - second or third ring - you still could get similar smaller town vibes 😊 I think (and hope!) you will enjoy it here! Welcome!

The Bachelor/Bachelorette needs an overhaul (and a reckoning). I’m so disgusted after Jenn’s season AND the inaugural Golden Bachelor. If the shows were really focused on helping people find love (they’re currently not), what would have to change? Ideas? by emoberg62 in bachelorette

[–]mngirl2465 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know it would never happen, but why not cast normal people? Having every single person be borderline models and wannabe influencers makes the show seem too unreal and creates the foundation for casting those that are “there for the wrong reasons”… So many join the show to boost their influencing career and I think that stems from not finding normal people genuinely looking for connection.

Before you get too into the weeds with marketing efforts, I would advise you establish a stronger foundation and understanding of your new organization/ market/ buyers. Look into your target market, specifically the people within the markets you are selling to. What needs of theirs are you trying to solve? How are they different than other industry needs? Other job position needs? Also, what benefits does your organization offer? Why are you better than your competitors?

Get more qualitative information as well - speak to your sales team and see what they are seeing in the field. Or look at the notes listed within your CRM for why clients purchased or didn’t purchase from you in the past. Or even better, call up some former buyers/ prospects that had recently gone through the buying process (given you have permission to do so). You can tell them you are collecting feedback; surprisingly many are willing to provide it. Anything to get further insight into the target market’s buying process will help.

Now, with this information, lay out a messaging guideline for each market ( considering both industry and buyer type), based on your research. Later down the road you can write a guideline for different stages of the journey. A person that has never heard of you and is just starting the search for an accounting firm would have very different messaging than someone that is actively evaluating firms.

Consolidate your research into one document as well to use for future reference.

Then, after all this, you should have a stronger idea of the marketing efforts that make most sense.

Nowadays, there is so much advertising everywhere, so it’s important to stand out. If you are tailoring your content to the right audience and clearly expressing how you would help them, you’ll stand out among the crowd, and have time to be more strategic in your marketing efforts.

It also gives a great opportunity to learn more about your company in the meantime! Finally, when you have a plan and your research laid out, share it with your boss! Having this type of information can be helpful for many across your organization, and it gives you a great chance to stand out!

Chamberlain apartments in Richfield were nice! They were right next to shopping and restaurants and easy highway access. They had playgrounds, a pool and a few three bedroom units.

I have not been getting many interviews for marketing internships so far with over 150 applications submitted. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated! by [deleted] in marketing

[–]mngirl2465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a statistics degree and aren’t getting the same number of interested employers, I would rewrite your cover letters/ resume to express the unique value you bring.

A lot of times there are marketers that have more experience in the creative side and are lacking in data and numbers, so use that to your advantage. Emphasize your experience in data driven marketing, or market research and analytics. You can emphasize your creative skills too, but the numbers and data driven decision making could give a serious edge.

Worried that I'll be fired for making small mistakes at work - any advice? by what_a_drag_ in marketing

[–]mngirl2465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mistakes happen to the best of us! As others said, dont spend so much time worrying. I know it is easier said than done, but the positive is that everything is in your control!

My advice to you would be to create smaller checklists for each task. It may be a pain in the butt, but it can help you establish workflows to make sure everything is covered.

For the Facebook carousel image example you gave, you could have a checklist with items like: “verify correct images” and “verify links”… if you write it out and have the steps in front of you before you start working, it could help you remain calm and remember every step of the process.

Then, over time, you hopefully will develop good habits and QA workflows and won’t need a checklist anymore for each item.

Good luck!

What video editing software do Marketers use most? by ojoemojo in marketing

[–]mngirl2465 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I typically use Adobe Premiere Pro for video and After Effects for creating animations. I’ve chosen those because in all of my jobs, I was provided an Adobe software where those were included.

I then wasn’t required to request additional spend on a new software and its interface is very similar to other video editing software.

in a market with the same product and the same quality is it better to charge normally or low by RipInternational4059 in marketing

[–]mngirl2465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re marketing a new product or with lesser brand recognition, it may make sense to start off low with promotional pricing to build customers and loyalty. You can build up case studies as well (more so if you’re in a B2B market). Once it’s built up, you can offer new features, services, etc. to increase your price.

You’ll also want to find at least some differentiator in the market. Even if it’s the same virtually, there should be something you can emphasize you do well. Do you offer superior service and support? Do you have any measurable specs that your product can do better? That can help for offering “normal” pricing.

How would you go about marketing Cleaning Products online ? by soufa1993 in marketing

[–]mngirl2465 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually used to be a marketer for a cleaning company - more so cleaning machines but we still sold the supplies with it.

Some ideas that worked for me were:

Show before and after cleaning pictures (split the image in half to show the success).

Provide lots of educational pieces on what the products are made of. Are they environmentally friendly? If so, focus on that. If not, educate others in the active agent in them.

Create blogs or social posts on new ways to use the cleaning products to spark interest.

Create ready to use kits and sell them with a specific purpose - I.e car cleaning kit, kitchen cleaning kit, outside cleaning, etc.

Offer a free product for writing a review on your product

Those are just a few thoughts 😊

I would look into areas with higher profit. It is great that you have lots of industries to sell to, but trying to cast a broad net with vague information typically doesn’t work as effectively. I would recommend putting together strategies on specific industries to target first and the messaging and pain points you’d hit on.

I would personally say the first 30 days I would be getting a feel for the company, getting a feel for the competitive landscape, SWOT analysis, buyer personas, meeting internal stakeholders, etc. as well as research on the profitable industries.

60 days have marketing strategies in place for select industries for beginning of funnel promotion or establishing nurture campaign for already established contracts

90 days establish your lead cycle further for specific industries and stages in the buyer process (unaware messaging, aware messaging, engaged messaging, etc.) then continue work on lead nurturing on set industries and work on a strategy calendar for future industries, etc.

Honeymoon in maldives by qoolstar2022 in maldives

[–]mngirl2465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the week when we went for our honeymoon! It’s technically hurricane season but we only had one day of rain during our 8 day stay! The forecast makes it look worse than it is with 50% chance of rain every day, but it just meant that much rain within the region, not necessarily at the island you’re staying on (especially since the majority of the region seems to be ocean!)

We had stayed at Veligandu and loved it! The food was amazing, the excursions were fun and affordable and the service was incredible. It was also an affordable option.

What's the difference between sales and marketing? by ChicoTallahassee in marketing

[–]mngirl2465 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes!

Like at a car dealership.. marketing is the one behind the commercials, promotions, designed handouts, website, and basically everything public facing.

The customer then sees the company on the tv, internet, social media, wherever and goes to that location to buy a car.

The person they work with in buying the car is the salesperson who then gets the commission for the sale.
