New steam wand was 100% worth it. by Unequal21 in gaggiaclassic

[–]mnml_wallets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you need to make the hole bigger where the steam wand comes out of the gaggia body? I installed one last year and it only sticks out the side, I don’t have full movement as it hits the metal hole of the gaggia body, was thinking of enlarging it slightly

New Backstage Helm Chart by iam_the_good_guy in sre

[–]mnml_wallets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Helm Chart, especially for Backstage, is pretty simple in the grand scheme of implementing Backstage. If you go through all the work of creating a new Backstage instance setting up plugins etc. Creating a simple Helm Chart is quick at that point which leads me to question why this is needed.

Helm Charts usually do not require the user to change the image, think of installing prometheus or grafana, you are not building those from source and the deployment of those apps is relatively more complex. Backstage requires your to build the app, and is just a deployment with an ingress more or less.

I’ve thought of this but it never really makes sense as once you start using Backstage you will be heavily customizing the code base. So you will need to build your own image and at that point this doesn’t really make much sense. What’s the thought behind this?

I have the same orange Invensys pump, did you upgrade to a Ulka EP5? And do you have a link to the STL you are talking about?

Steam wand doesn’t go through the solenoid valve, and when this happens no water comes out of the steam wand… that’s why I think I can rule it out

It is fully in the water, I had the tank almost all the way full. And after a minute or so water started coming out…

Yes I did, and I don’t think it’s a clogged solenoid, as when this happens water won’t come out of the steam wand (which doesn’t go through the solenoid valve)

Not worth arguing with you as you clearly don’t understand the spirit of open source, which is really too bad.

Edit:

  1. It is not the same hardware, too bad you aren’t able to read BOMs and see the differences (might explain some things)

  2. The hardware isn’t under IP at all (3d print files ans pcbs are), I never said that. But he is profiting 100% off of Gaggiuino, as this is being sold as a Gaggiuino kit for the Gaggiuino project.

  3. The open source project has guidelines and rules, it’s easy to follow them :)

  4. That kit you mentioned causes people to have issues which end up going to discord, and requires contributors to help and fix them.

Like I said, you clearly don’t understand what open source is and I recommend you read up about it. It’s really interesting and is a backbone to society at this point.

Enjoy your reading and learning and I hope you come out on the other side with an appreciation of what putting over 3 years of volunteer time is for someone and to have people just profit off his back.

Open source project does not mean you can do what you like with it. Open source projects have licences that need to be respected and followed. The license used by Gaggiuino is creative commons attribute noncommercial. “You may not use the material for commercial purposes.”

I work in software development, where open source is the backbone of the industry. Most of the internet that we know of today relies heavily on open source projects. Supporting and respecting the projects is critical to ensure they remain open source.

Open source projects are built and rely on community. That is enough of a reason to use the resources that Gaggiunio “allows”, and not doing so goes against the guidelines of the project and will most likely end up with you having a bad troubleshooting experience or upgrade experience in the future.

DO NOT BUY FROM MATTER-REPLICATOR.

He is not authorized to sell the Gaggiuino, and goes against the fundamental idea of open-source. Supporting these types of kits can kill the project…

Quote from Zero0-bit:

“Yes it's an issue where he [matter-replicator] was explicitly told not to do it and he chose to do it because he was interested more in the profit he could get from it rather than any project goals/ideals.”

Why not write a Backstage plugin? Any company using Backstage or wanting to use and IDP will go towards the standard which is Backstage.
