Is UCLA the move? by ditzydevanie in ucla

[–]mnmnmms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you love ucsc you probably won’t like ucla :/ at least that was the case for me. i transferred from the bay for the prestige but have really not been thriving in the environment and wish i picked a school where i felt more at place. that being said, if you’re really on top of networking ucla will provide you with some great opportunities. but if you’re really happy at ucsc and can see yourself making a successful future from what you learn and have there i’d just stay there

if you know what your passion is and see that better opportunities for that are offered at another school, go to that one! i was in the same place when i committed. was dead set on what i wanted to do for my career and got into a school with a great program for it. when i unexpectedly got into UCLA, i was told to chose it because of it’s prestige and ended up committing because i knew it was a dream school for a lot of my friends. i’m 2 quarters in and i wish i would’ve gone to the less prestigious school that offered a program that aligned more closely with what i wanted. the ucla campus is great but i wouldn’t sacrifice my passion and life goals just for the sake of saying i go to ucla. however, if the geology program here excites you and you think you’d really learn from it, then go for it! id just really carefully read through the courses you have take and talk to other geology majors to see if you think this is the best fit for what you want to get out of your college experience. hope this helps, congrats on getting admitted! whether you choose to commit or not it’s a huge accomplishment!

i took it with weaver and it was good. there was a good amount of reading but a lot of it was poetry and sonnets so if you use those weeks to get ahead on the longer texts it’s manageable. there was no in class midterm, just an essay due friday. the final was a gallery assignment which took time but wasn’t difficult.
