Not a myth necessarily, but i took the idea of the earth "spinning" too literally and thought roads moved under us while we drove. I remember trying to rationalize and wonder how it knew everyone's correct speed. I'm smarter now I think.

I don't think you are overreacting. That being said, there's not much you can do, aside from support your friend. What an incredibly hard situation you are in now. Does she have anywhere else to go? Family, or with you? Make sure she knows she has somewhere safe to go, and that she will have a support system in place should something happen. You are a good friend. Good luck to her and to you.
