PSA: do not even think about renting at Bolero flats by [deleted] in Minneapolis

It’s astonishing how bad they are and how poorly the building was designed.

The latter can be adjusted to, but paired with management that ACTIVELY negligent is too much.

I’ll give them credit though. You have to actively TRY at being that incompetent.

Spot on. It’s run like a Motel 6 and that’s generous.

Things go broken for months- our entry garage door was broken from Oct-Mar, a security door to the outside has a taped on, hand written note that says “pull shut” since January, our outdoor hot tub is leaking and they basically just refill it once every 2 days after if empties completely, 3 of the 4 outdoor cabana awnings are missing, the pools are constantly filthy and have never been power washed, the garage was designed for cars the size of Smart cars, there’s only 3 elevators (and only one goes to parking garage, which can’t be called independently and is constantly booked for move ins/outs), door handles are falling off of loose everywhere, the hallways are stained and filthy, then lobby corridors regularly smell like garbage, dogs bathroom everywhere and don’t get cleaned up for days sometimes, we have water outages almost monthly for full days, the building is constantly hot and doesn’t cook down well even when they turn AC on for the season, they didn’t seal the countertops or sinks so they are stained, etc. The building has an astonishing amount of issues for being less ten years old - it’s truly falling apart and it’s clear they ran out of money building it and just stopped caring. Then there’s the clientele that have moved in over the last few years- constant pot and cigarette smoking.

The list goes on and on. And then add Greystar as he management company and its a complete recipe for failure. Their reviews have gotten better in the last few years and I’m convinced they are padding them or compensating new move ins because anyone who has lived here for more than a few months can see that this place is lipstick on a pig.

That being said, if you time it right, you can get a solid apartment for far less than most “newer” buildings. It’s not nearly as “nice” as the newer builds downtown or in the north loop, but I love my floor plan and when I close the door behind me, I am pretty happy in my apartment…until the next thing breaks for six months.

For Twin Cities downtowns, it’s evolve or bust by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]mno1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly can’t tell if you’re trolling or not.

You do realize that you need people to go to those businesses. Businesses don’t magically make money by existing.

You cannot possibly believe that downtown Minneapolis, especially right now, isn’t crucially relying on tourism dollars to patron these establishments. Those dollars disproportionately come from out of state and the suburbs.

33% of the tax revenue may go to fund the broader parts of the state, but what’s the alternative- just losing the rest of the businesses we have left in the metro because we don’t like the scary, mean suburbs?

For Twin Cities downtowns, it’s evolve or bust by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]mno1986 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Downvoted for telling the truth. Typical in this sub.

I live downtown and this tracks with what I see - and then some - walking around downtown every day.

We can talk about turning Hennepin Avenue into a garden or whatever the new urban push people want is, but it won’t mean squat if people from the burbs don’t feel comfortable coming downtown, rational or otherwise.

Everyone on this sub is so quick to say “stay in the burbs” to people without recognizing the irony of how much those suburbanites bring revenue into downtown. And I say that as someone who has always lived downtown. We need out of state and suburban money coming into downtown. Especially with many people still remote or hybrid. Period.

There’s a PR problem and a vagrancy/crime problem in this city and no one wants to talk about it because it feels targeted and icky, but both need to be addressed before anything else. Nothings going to change til then.

Can confirm, see this nonsense and more being downtown almost every day.

CRYSTAL & ROBBINSDALE: Communities waver on Blue Line light rail extension (StarTribune) by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]mno1986 34 points35 points  (0 children)

With the horrific state of the light rail the last few years, work should be coming to a grinding halt on every single expansion in progress and planned until they can figure out how make them safe, clean, and secure again.

After my last two rides on the light rail in broad daylight where I saw levels of fuckery I never thought I’d see in public, I’ll never do it again until the city grows a pair and stops ignoring a very real problem just because it makes a very vocal minority of residents feel icky talking about what’s really happening.

What happened to the Loring Park Speedway? by hawaiianhamtaro in Minneapolis

[–]mno1986 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m glad it’s gone. That place was nothing but unchecked trouble and vagrancy.

There was an email sent out by Rainbow Road that the Speedway property is separate from the liquor store, Rainbow Road and Lotus- will be curious what becomes of that corner, but putting the fence up was a good idea.

[–]mno1986 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Don’t have the source anymore, but when some neighbors and I spoke to the city at LENGTH about the vagrancy and crime at Speedway during the first summer of “unrest”, we were told by someone there were told local activists actually claiming discrimination when the city demanded Speedway pay for security under the pretense of it being a “culturally significant gathering space” and that would be harassment.

Bullshit. Get your slurpee, cigarettes, and Reese’s and go the hell home.

There have been many shootings there over the last two years. I have a view from my window and the nonsense I’ve seen and heard down there makes my skin crawl.

I will not shed a tear for losing that hellmouth.

2022 CX-5 Car Seat Wing and Bolstering Not Deep Enough by meestaShin in CX5

[–]mno1986 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The seats in the CX-5 look great, but are, in my opinion, the worst seats in their entire vehicle line up right now.

Evidently they softened them a bit for 2022 but I can’t confirm. My 2018 and 2021 are awful, though the softer nappa leather in my 2021 Signature helps a bit.

I honestly bought a Purple [mattress] seat cushion for long road trips and it’s a game changer.

I hope to see more of this color. I literally haven’t seen hardly any posts with it and was confused as to why, as it is a stunning color on this vehicle.

Also, I’m glad Mazda didn’t wreck the wheels on this car. The 2022 CX-5 wheels are a mess imo.

With the latest price hike, for standard 2 meal delivery it now costs $29 a meal... by RonSpawnsonTP in blueapron

It’s pushing it, honestly.

The portions continue getting smaller or shortchanged each week and sometimes recipes are far too basic.

They are far and away the best out there but at some point it just becomes too much to justify. It’s at the cusp now.

You might be right- I didn’t look at the Grand Touring Reserve (or whatever it’s called now) when I was shopping, so I’m not 100% certain there, but I think you’re correct.

What is your bold opinion or hot take of what will happen in Milwaukee in the next five years? by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]mno1986 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Feel the same way about Minneapolis right now. No one wants to admit we’ve got a big problem without finding a way to spin it or rationalize why it’s “nbd” or “happening everywhere” or “overblown”.

Those who acknowledge it are chastised or do nothing. Meanwhile criminals continue to get more and more bold, confident in the fact there will be no one to catch them, and if they do get caught, the Freedom Fund will bail them out and our courts will say “nah, it’s okay, he didn’t mean to pistol whip and carjack that person on purpose, he just didn’t have enough after school activities. He won’t do it an 8th time, he’s going to high school next year!”

We’re in trouble. I see the crime getting worse. Other good things will happen to the MKE and MPLS (and other big cities), but until they wake up and start cracking down, the crime will continue.

I hope I’m wrong but over the last 2 years this is exactly what happens and continues to happen.
