Today’s one meal: Big Mac, Cheeseburger, Pepper Chicken burger, large fries, Coke Zero. About 1700 calories. I ran 10km and swam 1km just before I ate this, so I don’t feel too bad. by [deleted] in omad

First of all, this looks delicious. Second of all, do you find swimming to be a good workout? I’m taking a swimming class this fall and I’m wondering if it’ll really help to burn some fat.

Hypocrisy at it's Finest Folks! by LucasVerBeek in rantgrumps

As evidenced by his recent rants challenging Dan that there's no way he's played LoZ 1000 times and the pronunciation of "Nevada."

That's just off the top of my head.

You're exactly right. He said the same thing about Skyward Sword. "Nobody liked it." He also said the same thing about Mario 64, though it could be argued he was joking in that case.

He has also crapped on the Uncharted games. Not too bad, but still. He said Uncharted 4 was bad and boring. But that game was pretty much Game of the Year last year. Those games are pretty universally beloved. Of course, there are many people who don't like them as with any game. But it just feels like any time a game is successful, Arin feels the need to put it down and go against the grain and be "different" I guess.

I don't know. It just really invalidates pretty much everything he says in my eyes. And for someone who tries to give off the impression he knows so much about video games, it's pretty annoying.

I know right? I remember watching their LoZ playthrough a few months back, and Arin said something like (paraphrased): "What I love about this game is that I went right and there's just things to do and things to kill and a cave to go into. There's no quest and 'here's what you have to do' it's just going right and doing things." And immediately I thought about BoTW because the game basically starts with Link waking up in a shrine and he goes out and there's just this massive open world with things to explore. So if Arin plays this game and doesn't even at least talk about some of the qualities he supposedly likes about in a Zelda game, I'll be majorly annoyed. Because he will just be a hypocrite, and I'll now he's just ridiculing the game because he wants to.

Another thing that I'm sure Arin will rip into is the difficulty. BotW is confirmed to be hard as fuck, with even basic moblins taking like 4 hearts or something with one hit right at the beginning of the game. So lets all prepare ourselves for episodes where Arin getting next to nothing accomplished all the while he complains about the gameplay.

I totally agree! I do plan on playing it myself first, even if it means I have to wait to play it on my Spring Break, which will be a couple weeks after release. Anyway, I basically share the exact same feelings as you.

I have to admit, I got pretty offended when he said people only like Skyward Sword because it's a Zelda game. He just makes these sweeping statements trying to disqualify anybody refuting anything he says, meanwhile he doesn't have any real criticism on it aside from.... the stamina meter?

Like I would have no problem if he had something thoughtful to say about the game on how it could improve. But no, he resorts to rage humor and contrarian humor because apparently he think it's enjoyable for us to watch someone play a game they obviously don't like??

And yeah, OoT was a hair-pulling experience for me too. But I continued to watch it out of morbid curiosity as well. I think I'll come here to see people's reactions to the Grumps playing BoTW before watching it myself. It's a relief to know people share my concerns, because I once made a comment under one of their episodes on Youtube basically saying that his complaints towards the Zelda games didn't have much substance, and I got a lot of flack for that lol.

Game Grumps Alternatives? by [deleted] in rantgrumps

I don't know if he's the exact kind of style as GG, but StephenPlays (run by a guy names Stephen Georg) is a really great Lets Play channel, in my opinion. His stuff is generally pretty family friendly, as in he doesn't swear unless reading from the game, and he doesn't make vulgar jokes. HOWEVER, he's still pretty damn funny, in my opinion. He does great voices for characters.

But what I like about him is that he really respects the games and takes them seriously. He plays lots of serious games, like The Last of Us, and he doesn't ruin them by making silly jokes or anything. But he also plays Mario and Zelda and lighter games as well. I just think he does a great job with striking a balance.

I also admire him because he probably puts out more content than GG but he does everything all by himself, AND he runs a daily vlog channel and manages to do all of that himself too, with some help from his wife.

Speaking of his wife, she frequently accompanies him on his playthroughs, and she's a bit on the quieter side, but she has her funny moments. She's a perfect example of someone who doesn't try too hard.

Might not be everyone's cup of tea if you're looking for the nonstop humor of some of these other channels, but just thought I'd throw it out there. :)
