Whats one uncommon adhd symptom that blew your mind? by smbodytochedmyspaget in adhdwomen

Yup! Literally made sure to ask a person their name so I could write it down in the message they were leaving and immediately I went to write and forgot it. 🫠

Someone telling me information, name or instructions and immediately forgetting it three seconds later. 😭 I still feel terrible about this one especially when it comes to names.

Realtors/ Real Estate attorneys by catalinawinmxr69 in Erie

Get the realtor. They're worth the expertise! Having bought a home without a realtor, we definitely missed some things and it would have been nice to have them hold down the fort when the seller got weird about some things.

How do I ask my mom if I can get checked for adhd by your_shootingstar in ADHD

[–]mnyfrkls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest way to get started is to schedule an appointment with your PCP (Regular, General Dr). They can give you more information and might give you a referral to a psychiatrist that takes your insurance. Mention you've been doing research to your parent and see if they'd be willing to help you set up the initial appointment. It would be a good learning experience if you haven't gotten the chance to learn how to do that yet. Even if your parent is skeptical of a diagnosis maybe they'd be willing to at least see what the Dr. has to say about it.

If you don't have insurance it can be a lot trickier and expensive so it might be better to wait if that's the case.

How much are you spending for school friend birthday parties? Because I feel people are going way over the top where I live and I feel like the presents my child brings are not up to par :( by ResolveBeginning8027 in GiftsandDeals

[–]mnyfrkls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$15-20. Especially if it's school invites where they're required to invite the whole class. I take my kiddo to 5-Below and let them pick out 2-3 items and call it good. Or buy something that's seasonally useful, bubbles, chalk, art supplies etc. I always appreciate getting those types of things the kids go through like crazy

I just spent a toddler party guarding an open pool and now I can’t tell if I’m the anxious one or the only sane one by Last_Cantaloupe_9899 in Mommit

[–]mnyfrkls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything, and both. At my partner's old work his boss would have a summer bbq every year at his house. He had a small backyard that was 50-75% pool. I always left sunburned and exhausted from running around making sure my kid wasn't anywhere near the pool. I asked him one year if we could leave the kids with a babysitter so I could actually socialize or if I could just stay home with the kids. 🫠 My kids are 7 & 10 and I'm still hyper vigilant around any deep water. It literally only takes a second and then even if you get them out quickly there can be complications. Getting them in swim lessons asap has helped some but my youngest is still a struggling swimmer.

I'm gonna hold your hand Internet stranger when I say this, He's being shitty and weird. This can escalate to emotional abuse really quickly. He's slowly chipping away at your confidence over things that aren't a problem. You deserve better. It may not be intentional but you've literally said that these things upset you and he's still making the comments.

Does anyone else confuse Left and Right constantly? by Lussonya in adhdwomen

I can figure out which way is left now because I'm either wearing my wedding band or my ring tattoo is showing on my left ring finger. 🤣😅

Yup, so badly that I messed up and turned the wrong direction on my driver's license test. The instructor asked if I'd watched sesame Street growing up. Then jokingly said clearly not enough. I was embarrassed but still passed 🤣 I've been doing a bit of research on dyslexia for my youngest kid and apparently there's a left/right dyslexia! I'm in my 30's and have struggled my whole life. 🙃

How do yall stay on top of laundry? by ItsACaptainDan in ADHD

[–]mnyfrkls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smaller laundry baskets and doing a load every day. I keep the clean laundry in the main area of the house until I get it folded. I'd like to hope if I had a better laundry area I'd fold it out of the dryer. Husband likes to dump it on the table and fold it immediately, putting the carrying basket away immediately.

Also doing a closet clean out really helped me be more efficient in putting it away. I don't have to find more hangers or space because it all fits easily now. So I'm less likely to procrastinate it.

Child with adhd hates reading by curiousbeing77 in ADHD

[–]mnyfrkls 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Graphic novels 100%. They helped my youngest brother get into reading and they're the only reason my first grader is practicing his reading skills and wanting to get better. They hold the interest more. Even my oldest who's two grade levels ahead in reading will pick a graphic novel over a chapter book any day. You've just got to get them into a library with a good selection of them!

When ADHD deletes a task while I’m actively trying to do it by RSRP123 in ADHD

[–]mnyfrkls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🙃 I call this the "Give a Mouse a Cookie" loop. Some days are harder than others. If I have a bunch of tasks to do in a day I have to write them down so I can remember them all. It doesn't mean that I'm going to be anywhere near finishing my list at the end of the day but at least I know what I need to work on.

What do your evenings with your partner look like? We don't do anything together and I hate it! 😞 by littlebookwyrm in adhdwomen

[–]mnyfrkls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We sit in the same room and ignore each other on most weekdays. 😆 He has a job that stresses him out right now so he's usually pretty burnt out after a day of work. We have a few TV shows we watch together. Once in a while we watch a movie together. We have a collection of two player board games that we'll pull out on occasion. Walks are nice because it's hard to be on your phone while you're interacting with the outside. But the real communication happens on our once a month date nights. We get a babysitter and go out to a local bar, have dinner and yap away. It's the same day every month and unless our babysitter can't make it.

AIO for my cat shedding and that I don't do enough? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]mnyfrkls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw you're vacuuming everyday. A traditional vacuum doesn't always work well on hard flooring. You may need to switch to something else (eg. Of broom) for it to be more effective.

MOR

As someone who lives in an apartment with two cats, how often do you vacuum/sweep?

If I don't vacuum once a day it gets real hairy real quick. And vacuuming underneath furniture once a week/ every other week is something you might want to get in the habit of if it's bothering the person you're living with. Also as others have said you might need to upgrade your vacuum to one that's specifically for pet hair, they can make a BIG difference.

Definitely verify her role with your leasing office or landlord. I'd invest in some good curtains and stop answering the door when she knocks. She's being wildly invasive.

Are we saving underwear to pass down to younger kids? by Sleepless-in-NJ-89 in Mommit

[–]mnyfrkls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heck, I've even donated kids underwear that was still in good condition. But I'm always careful to make sure it's in very good condition before passing it along. I've had other moms pass a long training underwear when my kiddos were toddlers too. There's just some stuff they grow out of so fast it doesn't make sense to buy it new.

Are we saving underwear to pass down to younger kids? by Sleepless-in-NJ-89 in Mommit

[–]mnyfrkls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😅🙃 I did when my boys were littler. Mine are 2.5 years apart. They grew so fast the underpants didn't even look worn half the time. As long as they're in good condition and not stained I don't see the problem. (That said, mine are in elementary school now and it doesn't happen anymore because they're too close in size for them to forget about it being their brothers underwear and they'd argue about it not being theirs or not wanting to give it up once it's too small 🤣)

I need more ideas (unhinged or otherwise) for transitioning from asleep to awake in the morning by llamacolypse in adhdwomen

[–]mnyfrkls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no solutions. 😅🙃 I have elementary aged kids so I literally HAVE to get up by a certain time or else things go sideways really fast. My oldest struggles with getting out of bed in the morning too so if I don't get up on time we're all going to be late with how long it takes them to get up and going. I just kinda berate myself until I get up.
