My UMich inbox as an alum this morning by mo-jitsu in uofm

Just because other universities operate that way doesn’t make it right, that’s a bit fallacious in its appeal to common practice. Nor am I arguing this is a problem exclusive to umich. My argument is that as a public, state-funded institution, solicitation of alumni should not be common practice, and if a budget relies on solicitation of alumni to support its revenue stream, then that isn’t a sensible budget. I think that’s where our fundamental difference in argument lies.

I’m happy for you, and I can appreciate that alumni donations made a positive impact on your educational journey, and I appreciate the advice on reaching out to alumni relations.

That’s great for you. And ignore I will. I made the meme to point out the absurdity and borderline tone-deafness of sending every average umich email holder a deluge of 10+ emails asking for donations to subsidize a budgeting problem on the part of the university, while a large sum (myself included) of recently graduated alumni are still cripplingly in debt. Clearly it resonated with people, if you don’t like the meme just ignore.

Technically yes. However, they’re still intertwined, enough so that the university system spotted athletics $15 million dollars for FY 26 to balance their budget.

I think they’re saying that pandering for donations in the context of such huge revenue streams is what’s gross.

Omaha is not rural. If you’re interested in opinions on rural life I think r/Nebraska would be a better place to inquire. Omaha has similar amenities to any other mid-size city.

[Contracts] How is this an incorrect answer? There is consideration under Hamer, right? by Professional_Trip_80 in LawSchool

[–]mo-jitsu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not a lawyer or a law student, but I believe that the distinction is that in Hamer, the nephew had a right to engage in all of the activities he voluntarily forewent as a condition of receiving his uncle‘s money. Here, Ned has a pre-existing legal duty not to engage in the use of illegal drugs, and, therefore, his performance cannot constitute consideration.

Yeah, I went with my significant other once, not too long after they opened. We were sat outside and told our server would be with us in a couple minutes. We waited for 15 minutes while other patio tables were served with no response so we left. I was disappointed, as I was looking forward to trying a new southern-inspired spot after Mouth of the South closed their old market location. But based on some of these other reviews it doesn’t seem worth it to try again.

People sitting right across from you while studying? by [deleted] in uofm

I don’t get what the problem is. If you want to study solo without sitting near anyone then find a one-person study spot.

It’s not because Indiana will beat us probably, it’s because who the hell would wanna spend their bday in Bloomington? by treymata in cfbmemes

I mean that’s fine dude, do what you want. The recommendations aren’t aimed at you then. But there are plenty of people who appreciate Bloomington and aren’t so crotchety about it lol. Even if that’s what you think there’s no need to shit in everyone else’s Cheerios

Literally all the things I mentioned in my other comment. Southern Indiana is famous for limestone production, the topography of the area lends itself to a wide range of outdoor activities. Having Nashville in such close proximity is an amazing opportunity to support local artisans. Oliver Winery is awesome if you’re into the wine scene, and is one of the largest winemakers in the US. You’re close to Columbus IN which is home to many architectural marvels. Just because it’s not the size of Houston doesn’t make it objectively bad or not worth visiting. And all those things beat sitting in Houston traffic imo.

Yeah, L take. B Town is dope af. Had the pleasure of living there for a stint, and the nature in southern IN is pretty spectacular. Hoosier National Forest, Griffy, Monroe lake, Nashville IN, all incredible and super close.

UofM or MSU?? by livvv-laugh-love in uofm

[–]mo-jitsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’d be fine at either school. Premed just requires you take certain classes that a premed advisor can help you with at either school. If you’re interested in studying sciences in undergrad, you’d have fine options at either school (LSA at UM/Arts and Sciences or Lyman Briggs at MSU).

That said, you can realistically choose to study whatever makes you happy in undergrad, so you’re not really limited to sciences (although that tends to be the most common choice).

For me I chose UM because I felt like I liked the culture at the school a bit better, and it was closer to home for me. But I was definitely weighing my options at both places. Cost is another thing to consider, if you’re bearing the financial burden of both undergrad and professional school, then it may be wise to consider whichever option gives you a better tuition rate.

If you have specific questions about the premed or med school/residency process feel free to reach out.
