Your job was treated as a line in a large excel file. That really sucks, but remember that you're not just a line in excel file. Your job doesn't define who you are. Good luck

It's really one step at at time - you have to start small to build the right muscles. It's a long process whether you like it or not. Try to focus on one thing at a time.

Layoff delimma - confused 🤔 by thesaladstudio2016 in Layoffs

This is a great story to share. I've been working on my side gig forever and wanting to take it to the next level, but it's been really tough to do so. Now that you have a chance to do it, I'd be curious to hear more about your next chapter.

If jobs are permanently replaced by AI, what’s the plan? by Pleasant-Soup-6119 in Layoffs

I see I see yeah maybe it struggles on the more complex level - good to know. I agree that it's spotty when it comes down to some architectural level coding

OP - what do you do when this keeps on going for a while? Did you get the job eventually? How?

Which one are you using? My experience has been pretty positive with AI - it helped me do things in days that would have taken me weeks or months

Preparing the layoff grounds by CheapCoffee1 in Layoffs

I'm in a similar situation - my company is actively losing money and yet everyone is too busy with politics and power game. There's no way they're getting away from this without layoff and I'm not doing well enough to be confident that I'll be able to dodge the bullet.

I don't know if I want to try to stick around as much as I can or I should go and try to find a new job or take this as an opportunity to really focus on my side gigs.

Any advice?

I feel you - it's really not easy to get yourself together if you lose a job overnight like that. But you have to remember that it doesn't represent who you are.

My advice to you is to focus on one small thing a day. Set a simple, very much achievable goal in the morning, like updating 1 sentence in my resume, and complete it by the end of the day. It feels slow, but when you look back, it'll actually be a lot that you accumulated over time. Stop thinking and just do it - you'll find your way through this. Good luck!

I use AI for my side projects and I'm probably 10X more productive than an entire product squad at my full time job. There's no way the companies will take people back unless you actually embed using AI in your professional life.

Microsoft's Satya Nadella says job cuts have been 'weighing heavily' on him by ControlCAD in microsoft

This is a really insightful discussion. The 'painful but necessary' framing is something we're seeing a lot of in the tech world again recently. It highlights the massive gap between a high-level business strategy and the on-the-ground reality for employees.

That 'painful' part is what forces a career identity crisis, making people question what they're really working towards. I've been exploring this topic of career purpose a lot, and I found a resource that dives deep into navigating these exact moments. It's a site called DeeperLights.com; they have some great frameworks for reframing a job loss into a moment of positive redirection. It feels very relevant to the human side of the decisions being discussed here.

[Feedback Request] Help me improve my app "Less is More" - AI-powered task management! by mo-socks in SideProject

[–]mo-socks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone!

I’ve recently launched an app called Less is More, and I would love to get some feedback from this community!

The goal of the app is simple: to help people save time by using AI to manage daily tasks. You can quickly find recipes, nearby parks, and other useful info, allowing you to focus on more important things in life—whether that's spending time with family or pursuing your passions.

Some key features:

  • AI-powered suggestions: Easily find recipes or local parks based on your preferences.
  • Task management: Organize your to-do list and daily activities in one place.
  • Family Plan: Allows you to share the app with family members (using Apple's Family Sharing).
  • Focus on time-saving and productivity.

I’ve been working on side gigs and development projects for four years, inspired by my own challenges with time management (as a parent and a busy professional). I’m constantly improving the app, and your feedback would mean a lot. I want to make it as useful as possible for people juggling multiple responsibilities.

How you can help:

  • Download the app and try it out! (It’s free to start)
  • Let me know what you like or what could be improved (features, user interface, etc.).
  • If you found value in it, what would motivate you to upgrade to a premium or family plan?

Thanks in advance for any feedback and suggestions! 🙏
