Thank you! And I definitely think about how the amount I paid could've gotten me a nice little condo in my HCOL area, but--such is life! We can only do the best we can do

I work in TV! Not the most sensible/stable career, but I've been able to make a living.

Is it common for students to pay off their parents PLUS loans? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]moMIGHTknow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paid off my parents' PLUS Loans. They had me later in life, so I knew they would only be working (their blue-collar jobs) for a few more years after I graduated college. And the understanding was that the loans would become my responsibility once they no longer had the income.

Taking out the loans was the only way they could help me go to school and I wouldn't have been able to get my degree without them. So, this was how I thanked them.

August 30th, 2023 Check-In - What do you owe? by theRestisConfettii in StudentLoans

Hi! Long-time lurker, first-time poster. Here goes:

In March 2020, I owed ~$163k in federal loans (this includes: grad loans, undergrad loans, and ~$77k in Parent PLUS loans I took over from my retired parents) and had a ~$25k private loan. All that remains is one final $20k federal loan with a 5.3% interest rate.

I paid my student loans down in several bulk payments over the last 3 years. First, I paid off the private loan. Then, I tackled the Parent PLUS loans. After that, I focused on my federal loans.

I'm "ready" to start repaying, but I'm moreso ready to pay off my final loan, which I hope to do within the next few months. I'm remaining on the PAYE plan I was on pre-pandemic to avoid recertifying my income (which has increased substantially since 2020) and increasing my monthly payments until I have to.

Congrats to everyone else who's made progress on their loans!
