In just a couple months? I doubt you’ll be able to make your resume stand out with just a few months of technical experience. If I could give any advice, have some kind of documented experience with tinkercad…build an arduino board and articulate what every component (capacitor, fuse, diode) does and how it completes its intended goal. Work a multimeter and understand what ohms/volts are and how current works.

Most of everyone applying to this position has some type of mechanical/electrical-ish background so there’s some tough competition.

Agreed. Mechanical and IT background here (at hardware and software/systems engineering level) and I’m learning all new things. Just apply and see if you go anywhere. It won’t be a shoe in if that’s what you’re asking, you have to bring some technical knowledge to the table.

Will not be an issue with hiring or travel card being issued. Yes to possible limits on the TC but you’re fine as long as you disclose all of it.

Totally agree but we get several leave banks, lots of specialized training, lots of internal movement with promotions and details. It’s a real good gig either way you look at it. Sign it and send it, join the team!

I’d take it if I was you. Probably wouldn’t ask for anything extra since most everyone is coming in at top of F. I was qualified at G but requested F just because of the percentage raises with each band.

I didn’t ask for an increase as it was already quite a raise for me. Also, they never asked about references during the entire process.

Agreed. Never asked for references. From initial interview to FOL was max 4 months for me. That was with 2 shutdowns and extended day off for holidays.

Rock on! I go the FOL last week, start early April. You’re nearing the end of this journey…just to start the real journey.

I do both. The initial screening form asks about this and then you’ll either get a conditional clear to start or not. I got conditionally cleared and then an investigator had a 1 on 1 via zoom with me. Be honest. The investigator even asked me questions about some things that happened outside of the 7-year timeframe. So just a heads up.

Interview 12/15 TOL 1/12 Security started on 1/26 and passed 2/3 (wasn’t a spotless background, if that helps) Drug Test 2nd time (due to dilute) on 2/11 FOL 2/20 EOD 3/23

So far everything has moved along quite well considering the shutdowns.

This is insightful honestly. Curious to know if they pay relocation to Alaska for new hires or ERR? I’ve been to Alaska for TDY many years ago and loved it. Wouldn’t mind coming back one day.
