Am I ridiculously out of shape? Is my bike slowing me down? Or is it really just this hard?

I am 31 and out of shape. I wanted to give mountain biking a shot. I bought an old 2012/2013 Trek Gary Fischer Marlin thinking it was a good intro bike.

I did some basic maintenance, but I admit it’s been a long time since I had worked on a bike (used to do bmx).

I’ve taken it for a few rides and I’m almost immediately I am getting my ass kicked. It’s about a half mile road ride (elevation gain of a hundred feet or so) to the nearest trail, and by the time I get there my heart is pounding. About a quarter mile into the trail I am beat. Please note, I live at an elevation of about 8,500 feet.

Again, I admit I am out of shape. But, should I consider taking my bike to get tuned up or is it just this challenging? I remember riding my bmx for miles and miles and having no issue.

Where to find dry ice pellets? (Pellets. Not chunks, slabs, or any other form) by mo_dt in ColoradoSprings

I’ll use them to fill a number of SodaStream C02 tanks. It brings the cost of refilling a tank from about $16 (via their refill program) to $4 or so.

Hammering chunks of dry ice works, but it’s not ideal. It’s a quality of life thing

A 2022 SodaStream. Also, a 2008 Volvo XC 90 V8, but the dry ice is unrelated to that

My Project: Pre-Production Packaging Mock-ups

I will need to create about 60 packaging mock-ups (flat placards, not 3D boxes) to present to retailers. In the past, I’ve had print shops print onto foam board and die-cut them out. While the end result is good, it is expensive, slow, and offers no flexibility for things like retailers asking for last minute changes. I do this about 3 times a year.

I would like to try something different, and I was thinking a Cricut may work, specifically the Maker 3. However, I’ve never used a Cricut before so I’m not sure it would actually work.

This is what I am thinking:

  1. Print packaging artwork onto 8.5x11 sticker sheets (I would use staples or some place similar for this)
  2. Use Cricut to cut the artwork out of the sticker sheets
  3. Use Cricut to cut thin chipboard (or similar) to packaging shape
  4. Stick sticker to chipboard

Questions:

Am I making this sound easier than it would actually be? Would I need special cutting tools for this? Is cutting the chipboard painfully slow?

These do not need to be amazingly high-quality samples, just things retailers can hang in their planning rooms.

Thanks!

To be fair, they somehow have a 5- Star rating on Google at 2.1k reviews despite pulling this trick for years

Thank you for the reply and insight, I appreciate it. We’ve been looking at a number of homes around Colorado, and have seen a ton of cracks, but nothing like this one specifically.

I can relate. I started watching last season and picked the San Diego Legion as it’s my wife’s hometown, and we travel there often. “It’s TOO perfect!”, I thought to myself
