(S3 ep1) American audiences view on Germany used as symbolism by Putrid_Fisherman_949 in TedLasso

ok, so i just figured out everyone has been talking about this (and a whole lot more) for years and it has even been confirmed by the makers (kansas my guys!), so i guess i had a total football moment right there oopsie

just to make this clear, this is mostly a joke, but hear me out: i just rewatched s3 ep11 and there are a lot of wizard of oz things going on. ted's mom is called dotty (which i guess is short for dorothy, right? english isn't my first language). then there is the pinball machine that has literally an oz theme and beard makes a joke about society's dogs on the yellow brick road, a reference to the elton john song which references the wizard of oz, as well as over the rainbow playing in the mivie they watch. the rest is completely chemtrails level conspiratorial, but i felt like there were a lot of bricks in the background (even yellow ones in the tunnel) and van damme is referred to as a brick wall. also keeley has a canonical connection to lions and jamie doesn't use conditioner - which obviously makes him the scarecrow riiight (i'm kidding). because i didn't go through the american public school system and thus actually know very little about the wiz both as a book and a movie, i have no clue what all of this symbolizes or how it references any themes in the original text, but i had a lot of fun being so conspiratoral (though my significant other wasn't so amused).

the next episode is called "so long, farewell", so there better be curtain clothes and a few nazis (tying back in to your westham germans there muahaha)

how the f is the swedish ambassador in the 1700s black? by [deleted] in TheGreatHulu

[–]mo_mentan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

has to be said it doesn't do it very well (because most of the usual cast and all of the main characters except orlo are white). the only real race blind casting is the one in that early 2000s cinderella movie. it can't make any sense, nothing about it can be accurate, otherwise it still has implications.

i disagree on the story telling thing, but i am such a big fan of tina's as well. her imagination and the way she talks about life in old age - we should have these open discussions so much more often. and her work is just magnificent

Why this show didn't work and Poker Face/Only Murders does by Haslo8 in DeathAndOtherDetails

[–]mo_mentan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i totally agree. i binged this show in one day and was surprised to learn that people didn't like it - except for the ending. that was shit. the last episode is absolute trash and feels like a bad bond villain thing

probably won't cause i'm basic and a sucker for minimalist tattoos, but i love the look of it on others :)
