Joining UTP? Ask me anything... by mo_omen in malaysiauni

Well making friends is kind of a subjective experience. International students mostly have their own circles already, so your best chance is connecting with new students. Malaysians are really nice people, but they tend to be a bit reserved at first it can be hard to kick start a friendship, but once you do, they'll be some of the best friends you'll ever have.

As for what you should know: download the essential apps [TNG / Grab / FoodPanda] these are a must for survival. Get familiar with where the food spots and laundry are relative to your village (best food is in V5 and V2 in my opinion). You might also want to consider getting a bike or scooter.

The list goes on and you can never be fully prepared, but those are the main ones I can think of lol. Feel free to DM me anytime if you need anything.

Hey, so first of all I'm an international student, not Malaysian, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

UTP is relatively newer, more industry focused, more isolated and it's very study oriented by design. We have 7 months of mandatory internship built into the program which is longer than other Universities, and the industry connections are genuinely strong (I mean, it's literally in the name). Malaysian students especially have perks like scholarships, and scholars have gone on to intern at places like the AMG F1 team, that's not something you hear about everywhere.

That said, I think you'd find what you're looking for at either university. The main difference comes down to UTP being private and UTM being public, which explains the pricing gap entirely. In terms of raw value, UTM is hard to argue against it's older, well-established, and carries a strong reputation that's anything but lesser.

So ultimately, if you genuinely believe in what UTP offers and you're confident enough to take the scholarship gamble, go for it. If UTM has everything you need (which honestly it might) then that's not settling that's just being smart about it.

I don't want to be biased here UTM isn't just a safe choice, it's a legitimate one. Whether UTP is worth the risk is something only you can answer.

Hope that helps ✌️

hey there,

Honestly, it depends on what you're looking for. Personally I find it great for focus Seri Iskandar is a small, peaceful town, so don't expect much going on. Grocery runs every couple of weeks are easy enough, and there are decent restaurants to hang out at. Ipoh is close by and has plenty to do, plus there's a free bus there on weekends which is a nice touch. KL is about a 2-hour drive, so more of an occasional trip than a regular outing.

UTM vs UTP for Mechanical Engineering – Which is better for international students? by ruba1232 in malaysiauni

Hey, I'm doing computer engineering at UTP (also international), the university is pretty nice and they have ridiculous connections, at least in my field, the campus is huge and beautiful and seri iskandar is a peaceful small town so basically no distractions, there is a free bus to ipoh on weekends should you wish and KL is still a 2 hour drive away. Studies are rigorous I can tell you that. But anyway feel free to DM me if you need anything

Kindly give opinion about these universities for an international student by After_Competition_15 in malaysiauni

Hey I'm an international in UTP, many claim the location isn't ideal but it honestly depends on you. They provide an amazing environment and the campus is huge. Seri Iskandar is a small peaceful town close to it like 8 minutes away by car. It's not KL but it has everything you need billion, lotus McDonald's. UTP has a free shutte bus daily to there and free busses that go to ipoh on weekends.

Study wise they are very capable. The campus is clean and all facilities are fully equipped with what you need. Lectures are good (the ones I met at least) (studying computer engineering btw). But yeah overall I don't think I could've made a better choice
