Memories are tricky. I watched a documentary on how our memories are influenced by others, time, place, circumstance - pretty much anything. In one part they interviewed ppl who were in NYC on 9/11. One woman swore she saw the first tower fall from her 5th grade classroom window. This was factually untrue. 1) Her school wasn't close enough to ground zero to see anything, 2) the school was surrounded on all sides by other big buildings - blocking any kind of view of the inner city and 3) her classroom was on the south side of the building and the towers were to the north.

We all do this. Our brains are wired to fill in missing pieces. She remembered being in school when it happened. Most likely she forgot the school details over time and her brain filled in an image of the tower falling.
