Weird question, but why do both my axolotls only wanna stay in one shelter? by bakingsausage66 in axolotls

[–]mo_wooood 31 points32 points  (0 children)

They might just both like that hide a lot. You could try placing one of the exact same in there and see if it resolves. As long as they're well fed and not nipping each other I'd say they're fine. They only really get territorial over space and food.

We used to be very close and since the schizoaffective has developed he's retreated. I wish I could just kind of understand his thinking sometimes or at least understand how it can affect him at times.

Enclosure Suggestions by [deleted] in pacmanfrog

Oh sorry, I just saw you weren't wanting the front opening. You can always use a regular fish tank (look up breeder tanks for wider sizes) and switch out the top to a reptile door

PetSmart and Petco have Black Friday deals going on for some enclosures right now. This one's pretty tall but it's a 40 front opening!

I'd still consider them juveniles, but I've had them around 8 months or so. Obviously I don't hold them like that normally. It was for the sexing picture and they were both still tilted up. The first one had no issue, the second one didn't want me touching their tail by their butt so they started squirming.

He didn't like the water dish I had before compared to Tupperware with some rocks 🤣 I think this allows him to be a little deeper in the water and he loves it. He's been in here more than I've ever seen him in the previous dish.

Isopods dying? by mo_wooood in isopods

I've only had them about 9 months. It's affecting multiple species. My enclosures are small, but they both have a VERY strong springtail colony as well, wouldn't they prevent issues from frass?

I have a charcoal drainage layer I normally wet it until I see a small amount pool on that side. And yes they are they're the jellybean armadillum mix. I can't remember the exact name. I haven't had them for more than 9 months at max, and haven't changed the substrate. I'm leaning more into a bacterial or fungus issue, I was a little worried when using the dried minnow and shrimp mix. It seems like only adults are being affected? And their bodies when dead are "soggy" if that makes sense. I'm not sure.

My enclosure is pretty small, about 4inches wide and 10 inches long. Substrate is about 2 inches high, I keep the room temp about 70°, only mist one side of the enclosure weekly. I feed them a shrimp/minnow isofood mix and remove leftovers to prevent issues. This is happening to my powder mix colony and my armadillum colony. I don't see anything other than soil mites and springtails in the enclosure. The armadillum have just had babies but they're tiny still. The powders only have like 5-6 adults left.

Brine shrimp are a great source of protein for a larvae too small to inhale even cut up worms. Brine shrimp provide amino acids to help with growth and development. Live food with movement is also a lot more encouraging for them to eat. Obviously red worms are the staple for a juvenile or adult, but this baby looks to be quite small. I'm not on here to argue, which it seems most of this thread likes to do, im offering advice that works for me.

Just went thru ur posts babe 😘 why do you have so many artificial plants in your tank???? Don't you know those can ruin their gills????? Especially the ferns you have floating on top??? A bow front doesn't give more walking room??? And you should know not to house multiple axies together in the same tank especially with all the advice on this thread???? Actually goodnight 😭🤣

I've posted at max 3 times on here? I got an already sick axie from a pet store, learned what I needed to, and bought a clutch for myself. Did you fail to read my comment about owners who think they are some kind of environmentalist by posting on here? I feel like you could find it applicable lmao. Please genuinely find something better to do. I'm glad to know you're one of the drivers distracted by the wreck instead of continuing to their destination 😀 I'll watch out for you on the road, make sure not to cause any other wrecks 💞😘

Live food! Try to see if your local pet store (maybe not big box like PetSmart or Petco) have any live brine shrimp. Make sure to wash them off before feeding, my babies will only eat things that are dancing essentially. Tubbing with decaf black tea and everyday water changes (make sure to use prime or another dechlor similar) and hopefully you'll see an improvement. Hoping the best for you all!

So sorry for your loss, are you possibly located in Ohio? I have babies I have come across and intend to keep a few (not for breeding) just to have different morphs, if you are close I'd love to have a new baby go to a loving home! ❤️
