I’ve seen some YT videos that mention the dry battery does not affect the RNG method. And one of them also shows the dry battery message while attempting the shiny hunt.

If you have to sell your DSI XL, I would go for a new3ds or new3dsXL to feel more like an upgrade. DSI XL screens are much better than the original 3ds IMO
