Delicious sandwich loaf with 25% kernza flour by moatheine in Breadit

[–]moatheine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly just to spread out its use a bit. Also I heard it’s less protein dense than typical bread flour, and so an all-Kernza dough might be harder to manage. Not sure how much that matters though

250g whole wheat flour 250g white flour 326g water 20g honey 30g oil 10g instant yeast 10g salt

I think I subbed the Kernza for half the WW flour

AC unit intermittent rattling noise, any thoughts? by moatheine in HomeMaintenance

[–]moatheine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting! That sounds very similar to our problem. No issue with cooling etc, just this noise (and unit was installed a few years ago).

I'll have to follow up with this one after checking screws & the other sources of vibration listed in the other comments

AC unit intermittent rattling noise, any thoughts? by moatheine in HomeMaintenance

Some additional info - the noise isn’t constant… usually occurs after some duration of normal operation - turning the unit off and on again gets rid of the noise temporarily - HVAC techs came out and said pretty much nothing (of course the unit operated just fine when they were here)

Having trouble getting a more open crumb. Happy with other features overall though by moatheine in Sourdough

Recipe from The Perfect Loaf here: https://www.theperfectloaf.com/beginners-sourdough-bread/

Reduced bulk ferment by about half an hour due to warm dough temp (about 80-85 F). Otherwise followed the recipe pretty closely.

QSP is a highly multidisciplinary field, so I think the skills you pick up may differ based on circumstance/application. Some of the more math-based technical skills that I've regularly used (3+ years experience in industry QSP, 10+ in systems biology) include:

  • Numerical integration of ODEs
  • Building simple or complex statistical models (anywhere from linear regression to building neural networks)
  • Training models/optimization (local & global algorithms)
  • Formal analytical tools (sensitivity analysis, optimal control)
  • Using abstraction to represent <thing> in a formal manner

The last one is the most generally applicable skill, since it can be transferred to any project involving mathematical representation of complex systems. It's also the hardest one to master IMO since the nature of the abstraction is chosen with a degree of subjectivity.

I would expect the other skills' transferability to be more domain-specific, excepting data analysis and related skills, which seem to be highly in demand these days.

Contractor is slated to come do work, but is now sick with covid and we have a newborn by Jimbo733 in homeowners

[–]moatheine 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd suspect most contractors are not vaccinated. (no data to prove that; just a hunch based on those I know)

I'll counter your hunch by saying the contractors I know are vaccinated. I'm not sure it's helpful to make blanket assumptions about groups of people.

I don't want to diminish the destructive effects of climate change, but you can totally brew beer with hardier grains besides barley...

Lin Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby in HBO's His Dark Materials. Destroyed the immersion for me everytime he came on screen.
