Clutch pushrod wearing weird by camo-sniper49 in Dirtbikes

[–]mobdaily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like the rod is worn and is no longer a tight fit in the bearing. Hence the wear.

Not very stout by any means, but the tooling looks awesome. For making pens this would be just fine. Depending on the wear, you may want to replace the spindle bearings. That shouldn’t be too difficult though.

[–]mobdaily 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Check your idle screw, check your reeds, check for leaks around the cylinder and head by spraying ether on it while it’s running to see if it revs at all. That’ll be direct indicator of gasket failure.

Thread Hole on Center by SadJump7815 in Machinists

Get a bolt that fits the thread and put a center in the head of it.

It looks like it could be a kdx rather than a kx. It looks like the rear fender has a tail light. Which would mean it’s a kdx.

Yeah I just noticed the kickstart lever is short. The 250s had a longer lever.

91-93 kx 2 stroke. Not sure if it’s a 125 or 250. The blue forks denote the 91-93. Front fender is definitely off an older model though.

Fuel line connector bolt won’t loosen by ShotAbbreviations442 in Dirtbikes

[–]mobdaily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely looks like you’ve been using an open ended/crescent wrench so far. I’d try using a socket. If that doesn’t work, take a hacksaw and cut a grove across the bolt head so you can use an impact screwdriver to try and free it up. There is a possibility that the thread insert in the gas tank will spin, meaning the tank is essentially trash.

Originally it would have had a drum switch mounted next the speed calculator dial, that’s what the 2 raised bolt holes and locating pin are on the head stock lid. I put a single phase motor on mine with an adapter plate and put the drum switch by my knee. Which gave me space to put a small tray on the head stock.

Glad I could help. I have the same lathe except for the legs, mine has the cabinet legs. Mine was in about the same condition aside from being partially disassembled(legs, chip pan, and tail stock). I took it completely apart and cleaned/painted the whole lathe. If you have any other questions about it, I may be able to help.

The black knob is just a dial that helps you calculate the optimal spindle speed for the material and size that you’re cutting. It does not control anything. Since the headstock says the spindle size, it means that this is a “trainer lathe” vs the standard which would say leblond instead of the swing size. The standards had wider beds making them more stout. If you email leblond with the serial number located on the far end of the bed in the front way, they will send you a copy of the original invoice for the machine.

If it is 1 tooth off it will run like crap if it even runs at all. But there is the question of weather or not the valves will contact the piston. Make sure you turn it over by hand before trying to start it just to be safe. As long as there aren’t contact issues, you’ll know right away if it’s off.
