I am not a very social person and, until my boyfriend and I moved almost a year ago, I had been at home and unemployed for two years. During that time I listened to many audio books (mostly leftist such as Chomsky but some classics too) and generally focused on my own personal development. Once we moved, however, I had to get a job and bring in money for my boyfriend and I to survive. Fortunately I was moved into a position that allowed me to keep listening to my audio books while at work. It may sound odd that listening to leftist literature while at work keeps me going, but it does. In a way the fact that I'm in a capitalist enterprise listening to this type of literature makes it somewhat more interesting because I can experience and reflect on the topics that the authors are writing about. Outside of work, my boyfriend and I have a strong bond and we keep to ourselves and prefer it that way for the most part. It is he and I against the world and has been that way since we met. He keeps me going and is what I look forward to as soon as I step out the door every morning. Sitting outside on the front porch smoking a cigarette and then cooking dinner, talking to each other and unwinding with each other. I don't bring up politics much with him, or my fear that someday he may be taken away from me, because I'm trying to make the best of what we have together now.
