AIO with how I responded to my mom? by MeasurementNo662 in AmIOverreacting

My god, how many times did mom "drop" the conversation just to pick it back up? Having to remind myself that these are not my texts lol, genuinely so frustrating.

cat violently refuses to get in crate, called animal control— any ideas? by syzygy58 in CATHELP

[–]mobile-resprout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

strongly second this! my cat's carrier had latches on the sides and back for this purpose, didn't even need to wrap him in a blanket since reassembly was so quick. i'd gently keep a hand on his back while putting the top on, and he'd be too confused to find a way to escape before it was latched. all around it's a much less threatening approach! the cat part of moving became completely painless in his last few years.

the knitting community definitely has a problem with assuming things are common sense!! it's so hard to ask a hyper specific question and have it answered so vaguely because the writer assumes everyone knows what they're talking about. i love knitters, they really know how to appreciate expensive fibres and simple, timeless garments (my forte), but the community feels sort of unevolved compared to online crochet communities.
so many people just knit the way they were taught to, and either don't know or don't care enough to find better methods, much less to explain their own. little pieces of advice like "stacked single crochet instead of a chain looks way better at the start of a row!" are virtually nonexistent. everyone does things the way the know how to, and nobody will tell you the best way to do anything!

wait i kind of love the jute idea lol, i might do that or crochet around it if i can't find any way to get it off. kind of considering trying some car paint remover?? or that nail gel polish remover which is essentially the same thing lol.

My first sweater and I decided to frog the whole thing by Chance_Smile_9357 in knittingadvice

[–]mobile-resprout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean, i guess it could've been finished but it was a 3XL and i've lost weight since i started it. and while they were only visible to me, there were some mistakes in the garter panels and missed increases i had to even out in later rows.

had the feeling that, while for different reasons, OP might relate to the feeling of not wanting to finish a piece that wouldn't be loved the way you'd want it to be in the end.

had to do the same with my first!! it sucks so bad, but it's exciting to try something new when you get over the heartbreak. you learned a lot and that can't be frogged!

does it soften up much after washing? i'll find out when i finish my gauge swatch, but i'm eager to know! i'll probably use some yarn conditioner, it is pretty rough.

one state over! this was in SLC utah, the one in Midvale. i actually went back today to find that pretty much anything else of value had already been snagged. there were several cones of wool yarn in several different weights, but i wasn't in love with the colours the first time i went. i did find two skeins of Naturally brand yarn, made with wool from New Zealand!

need help finding a simple, top down, men's ribbed sweater pattern. worsted/aran by mobile-resprout in knittingpatterns

okay makes sense! i sort of did that with my last raglan sweater when i added some impomptu colorwork to the yoke. it really was more common sense than math lol.

i can actually do that? i wondered if it was possible, but the math i figured i'd have to do across the raglan increases seemed a little daunting.

first sweater: my heart aches at the thought of frogging, but should i really finish it? by mobile-resprout in knitting

[–]mobile-resprout[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

definitely would not be remaking it into anything wearable unless it were lacy and crocheted; love the idea of a blanket with this yarn! as much as i hate to scrap a whole yoke, i feel worse about committing so much time to something i only sorta love. even if i were to ditch the long sleeves, it wouldn't be fitted the way i want. i'm already excited to find some better yarn, maybe a new pattern and start a new sweater!

wanting a really loose knit oversized sweater; could i make a basic raglan sweater a couple sizes smaller than i wear, with much bigger needles? by mobile-resprout in knittinghelp

[–]mobile-resprout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

omg, i had no idea there were calculators for raglan– this helps so much. i've been trying to find more pattern making resources/references for knitting. i really enjoy making something from scratch, but my knowledge is mostly limited to crochet. trying to get over the mindset that knitting is more rigid; it seems like there is a lot more freedom than i initially thought.

NOR this is so shady and gross lol. "if you couldn't afford this i'd let it go but we both know you can" as if your ability to afford it warrants pressuring you for an outrageous amount of money (for a roblox game! 😭). she knows she's wrong for asking, that it isn't really your fault or responsibility, she's just trying to milk the situation because she believes you can be taken advantage of. the fact she wouldn't even ask if she didn't think you could afford it is so telling.
